Makeshift Parachutes.

How will our enemies counter these fearsome Parachuting Particle Beam Poachers?

This is a side-effect of dwarven animal training (hit animal with hammer until it forgets that it hates you, then lovingly cuddle it).

More bowgoblins.

Why does a legendary axedwarf immediately know how to wield a candy halberd after only training with a copper axe all his life?

Because he knows how to handle similar weapons to the axe. When he picks it up, he gives it a few swings to get a feel for the weight, then he goes on bisecting goblins all day long.

While dwarven soldiers are fearless, how come the civilians are utter cowards.

They aren't cowards. Fighting just isn't in their job description.

Why do animalmen who've fought forgotten beasts like dorves?

Mix well before pouring into cistern. Let bake at 11000 degrees Urist for 30-40 minutes before letting cool. Serves 60 goblin invaders or two forgotten beasts. Goes well with cage traps.

Why don't other races plunder your dead dwarves' weapons (that aren't just CURIOUSBEAST:ITEM)? You'd think the elves would jump at a chance to use an ☼adamantine battleaxe☼ rather than a XXwooden spearXX.

There is a myth among the other races that dwarven possessions are tainted with a blight that induces psychosis and slowly warps the mind into a dwarf-like state. In reality, any sort of physiological effect is created by broken beard stands attempting to bond with another race's incompatible nervous system. Whatever the cause, its best not to mess with enemy weaponry- someone might figure out how to introduce anti-looting magma charges into the handgrips.

Why does Armok not grace his world with the wonders of oil and natural gas?

But you never see a movie where a terrible coal plant accident causes a horrible devastation, do you? Nope, everyone seems to think that nuclear plants get their energy by smacking live atomic warheads all day or something.

It was forged anywhere from 1000 years to 25 years ago, there's not enough time for things to die and then get crushed.

Do dwarves dream of socks made from sheep?

Socks made of sheep? That's so un-dwarfy that dwarfs don't even consider that.

How come giant cave spiders haven't been domesticated at all, even when they're really useful?

Dwarves still run away from tame GCS.

Related question: How long does it actually take to train animals to "Domesticated" from the baseline of having no knowledge at all?

Why are Mood gauntlets and boots only created in singles, not pairs?

Because they are creating a true work of art, and it only stays a true work of art as long as it is the only one in existence.

Why didn't Toady give goblins the [INDIV_CONTROLLABLE] tag?
