Somehow I stil think the victory of Dick Mountainjoy over 2000 egyptians was more impressive. Sure, they had peasant and shit like that. And he had 90 Eastern General. But still, there is something epic about a lone 70-years old destroying a whole army.

Also, I'd sell my sould to be as good as you.

The enemy general must've skipped his stone dinner for that loss to be even possible...

He must've eaten gravel instead. Or worse yet : vegetables.. Bleh.

Barbarians aren't bad though- they all sound like Klingons. "This is no longer a battle, this is a hunt! No- a coward chase!"

Speaking of barbarians, I just started a game as Spain for shits and giggles, and they have one terrible start scenario. 4 towns with Gaul and Carthage in between, barely breaking even on trade, no city that can make more than town militia and Gaul and the House of Julii are both ready to throw stacks your way inside half a dozen turns. Jacking up taxes to generate revenue kills your pop growth, and you direly need that pop for bigger cities and better units. Should be plenty of FUN.

Yes, Spain is (in my opinion) the toughest "basic" faction. It's all that you've mentioned plus terrible units. Sure, you can rout Armored Hoplites with cavalry archers (ego!) but Spain has only one good unit anyway. The Bull Warriors. Which have an unholy upkeep. (and also are top tier units, that require a special temple to be built..) Bull warriors are, if micromanaged, the single best infantry unit in the game. The Spanish mercenaries are good too. But that's about it. Everything else is terrible. No archers, no phalanx, no good cav, no defensive units. FUN.

Edit : Go Coyote! Have them Spaniards conquer Rome! WOOOO!
(is "Spaniards" an offensive term? I wonder..)

I'm not Spanish at all, but isn't it just the same as referring to someone as a Briton, or an Englishman?

I just wasn't sure with the "-niard" part. (-ish is the one i knew)

At any rate : The next update will decrease the amount of neighbors that we have. Armenian war-machine strikes at all foes at once. We conclude any unfinished business, and end all the old wars.
Also : Themiskyra.

I hope to make it today, if time allows, but we'll see.

Ahoy!

Why are they better than urban cohort?

2hp, move faster, better morale.
In 1v1 of Urbans vs Bulls, Spaniards win. (that is assuming you use all strengths of both sides.)

Naturally Urbans are backed up with great roman cavalry, spearmen and archers, while Bulls are backed up by.. let's not go there..
So, in an army situation 1v1 doesn't matter that much.

People say that German berserkers are the bomb 1v1, but if you have bulls throw all their javelins, they make short work even of ze Germans.

Oh.. Also : Warcry improves attack by 10 for 30 seconds, thus Bulls 13 attack turns into a 23.
Stack it with charge bonus, and people will die left and right, while 2 hp Spaniards will not.
Not to mention having a 10 star general behind them.. One.Giant.Grind. (on Normal difficulty that is)

But They are expensive. With this kind of upkeep you can build entire armies with other factions..

With this being said : AI Bull Warriors will die before you even notice them.. then again, AI is retarded.

2*H.
I regret not picking 2*VH, but nothing can be done now.

I usually play M/H cause the AI just cheats it's ass off on the campaign map as is, but I think I'll turn the battle difficulty up to VH for my next game, with a properly designed stack I rout off the first stack without challenge and the second one with some difficulty if I don't have time to bring my troops back into formation.

EDIT: Playing with nothing but cities as Milan isn't that hard, and I haven't even gotten Condotteri (?) yet, 'course no one else has knights yet either.

I prefer quite the opposite. VH campaign and H battle. I don't mind enemy having a full stack added each turn, but i don't like hoplites routing to peasants, just because they're buffed with difficulty.

Thus Spain will be - most likely - VH/H, not double VH. But i will add some limitations to my gameplay, to balance it out.
Unless the viewers will go berserk on me.. ;)
