The mercs are also a quick and easy garrison. Also out of curiosity, what's everyones favourite factions?

You can manage plague using spies and small useless cities* as reservoir. Plague is such a useful little pathogen, you should always keep some.

*Or large, useful, ennemy cities.

I'm currently trying out Armenia, but in 1.0, the Germans were the best. Phalanx troops + spamworthy axemen, plus the great wealth they build up there... If Germanian bribes could get the armies to join you, it would have no betters.

Ah but Germania has the problem of not very good starting cities, and access to good starting cities is hard. You either go south and take Roman ones, or go south east into Macedon.

What do you mean? By the time Rome has it's first army ready to take Gaul, I've already captured Germania and have a good 20k income or so each turn. You can just bribe your way to victory then.

Just have to make sure to use mercenaries as your main army. Less money but more population.

Eh, the mercenaries in northern Europe tend to be Barb cav and Warbands, nothing too good. Although I can see that conquering rebel provinces.

It's effective against barb nations too. And against romans when you have a decent numbers advantage.

Got some progress with Armenia, but the update will take a while to make (editing, writing, sacrificing goats on a stone altar.. you know.. the usual. I'm actually struggling with humor now, as the same stuff is happening over and over again. That's the main reason for delay.)

In the meantime (so you have something to read) , i present you the continuation of my Numidian adventure (Because we left it at a cliffhanger, did we not? Will Egyptian stacks attack us? What about Scipii? What's going on in the far West?)
Spoiler: Numidia, Turns 8-18 (click to show/hide)

This concludes our Numidian adventure. In turn 20 our army at Capua is strong enough to beat the SPQR army and siege Rome. By turn 2x Egypt and Romans will be wiped out. The only trouble we can have is in Spain.. but it's Spain. They suck.

Also : This is not how i usually play. I prefer to take it slowly (like with Armenia), have my butt protected from anything that can go wrong, plans B, C and Y24 ready. But i've decided to rush things, to prove that Numidia has very weak enemies surrounding it, and it's possible to bombrush the world with it quite easily. I am by no means an expert, and as Spain i predict pain (Numidian units are MUCH better than Spanish! Desert infantry is AMAZING!).
Especially with the self-imposed challenges that i will implement.. but more on that later, once we beat it as Armenia.

NOW.. i'm off to edit the Armenian pictures and write an update! Yay!

Umm, the other guy fought larger armies somehow, that's all I got. :P

Anyways, also in awesomness I just held off 1900 pre marian reform romans with most illyrian mercenaries, two units of falxmen(Which are badass) two archer warband and a general.

It was pretty amazing, considering I had to start using the illyrians for melee. I didn't even know how I caused a chain rout. Just to clarify though it was in a fort.

The other guy didn't rush, as you can tell by the higher pop number for massacring.

You can tell by the date on screenshots too.
The last SS in his first post is 261 BC. (Siege of Siwa was in 262)
My run ended at that date.

Update is very close to being finished. Greeks throw everything, their mothers including, at us. It's not pretty.

This is a combat update.

Spoiler: Hard Six #2 (click to show/hide)

Perhaps i'm exaggerating, but i think it was a great victory! Negative opinions are more than welcome.

HOLY SHIT!

The enemy general must've skipped his stone dinner for that loss to be even possible...
