Youtube put making a Facebook addict-inspired mandatory site redesign over making the view and like counters update simultaneously. Again.

It's actually meant to be that way. When a youtube video is swarmed by tons of viewers, the view count doesn't automagically update because it could be someone abusing IP addresses and such to game viewcounts.

So videos that get swarms of views in a short time have view numbers locked down for awhile.

2,966 likes, 123,676 dislikes

So I'm guessing the 3000 likes are freepers. Actually I'm impressed, I thought there might be more of them.

Children not being allowed to sing baa baa black sheep, because using the word black is racist.

They changed the lyrics to baa baa rainbow sheep over here.
Who's "They", and where is "here"?

Just since "political correctness gone mad" is probably the favourite genre of "made-up or ridiculously overblown from one case" tabloid articles.  Especially if "here" is Britain, since this is a classic example of a wholly fabricated story that got repeated enough for everyone to believe it (maybe it's true in some other country though).
They is whoever is responsible for making such a thing happen.
Here is Northern Ireland, Fermanagh to be specific, I don't know about other counties, and I don't know about Catholic schools, but as a person who has friends with several children attending Protestant primary schools, I can be sure it isn't just a rumor.

Not really an argument, just more examples:
-The protagonists from The Magic Faraway tree are no longer called Dick and Fanny.
-In Where the Wild Things Are the character is 'sent to his room' instead of being 'smacked on the bottom'.
-Ring Around the Rosie now has a nonsense second verse so that the plague victims rise from the dead to eat the flesh of the living, something about a cow...

I also found this gem: Illustrations must not contain mammary organs such as breasts or udders. -Australian Illustration Guidelines.
I actually went to a library to confirm this when I read it. All true.

You do realize that nothing in your list supports you're original statement?

You claimed students were "preventing" children from singing baa baa black sheep. Every one of your examples just indicates making tweaks to the curriculum to better get across whatever messages they wish to send.

You can disagree with such changes, of course, but it is most definitely not the same thing, and they do it constantly for lots of reasons aside from "political correctness", usually as part of some overall lesson plan.

What bugs me is when people censor words that have no chance of being interpreted as intentionally insulting. Stopping real insults, fine. Preventing miscommunication and misunderstanding, fine. Censoring or getting offended by words when, in context, have zero chance of being interpreted as intentional insult on the part of the speaker ("nigger" in Huckleberry Finn, for example), not fine.

It's like people think symbols themselves are offensive, not the meaning behind them. Like a series of letters and/or syllables can somehow be good or bad. That is when "political correctness gone mad" actually applies.*

Does anyone think "Baa Baa Black Sheep" is talking about race? If the answer to that is no, and racial concerns are the justification for censoring it, then it is completely and utterly ridiculous.

Having never heard that rhyme before I looked it up. While the lyrics can be seen as talking about race/slavery ("black" and "master" are mentioned), I doubt a child or anyone not actively looking for said meaning would see it. Plus, if wikipedia's sources are to be believed, it has nothing to do with race historically either.

*sole exception: PTSD. Probably shouldn't mention the word "rape" around a rape victim, for example, regardless of intention on the part of the speaker.

Eh, just because they've been through trauma doesn't mean they have a right to censor you. Going into full blown discussions about it or making jokes, is what's bad, just mentioning the word isn't terribly likely to set anyone off.

The example that was given to me in a discussion about this a long while back was people using "rape" in the context of beating someone at a game. Someone playing league of legends or starcraft 2 might say they "raped" their opponent after beating them handily. That could be a taaaaad inconsiderate if said to an actual victim of rape.

I'd chalk it up as basic courtesy. Yeah you shouldn't censor yourself or others based on the chance of offending someone like that, but if you know they're in the room....

Anyone without PTSD is conjuring offense out of thin air, so no sympathy for them. Those with PTSD can't really control their reactions to things, though. Doesn't have to be a full blown relapse.

I personally agree with you on that usage. Also, you've used the word several times in front of me now, breaking your own rule already =P

Gasp! Guess I'd better go into super apologetic mode! :D

Yeah, complete avoidance of words like that would be silly too. Time, place, the person, all that good stuff matters. I'm not too concerned about breaking that rule in this case :D

Except they aren't censoring it - do you have any evidence kids there aren't allowed to sing baa baa black sheep? Teaching a different version doesn't mean the old one was doing anything wrong so much as they want to communicate something it didn't, most of the time.

-The protagonists from The Magic Faraway tree are no longer called Dick and Fanny.
Jo is no longer called Jo, and Bessie is no longer called Bessie.  This is clearly also censorship (somehow)!  Or maybe in the updated version they decided to chang old names that noone uses anymore to newer but equivalent names.  Besides, characters named Dick and Fanny are still in all the Famous Five books (same author) anyway.

-In Where the Wild Things Are the character is 'sent to his room' instead of being 'smacked on the bottom'.
Can I have a source on it?  Wikipedia doesn't mention this (nor any other page I've checked), and my 18 year old copy still has him sent to his room without supper.

-Ring Around the Rosie now has a nonsense second verse so that the plague victims rise from the dead to eat the flesh of the living, something about a cow...
Most of the sources I've read seem to suggest that Alice Gomme recorded such a verse as early as 1898 (back when people hadn't arbitrarily decided that it was a song about plague yet).  If anyone happens to have that book and can check that would be great, since I can't find it online anywhere.

I also found this gem: Illustrations must not contain mammary organs such as breasts or udders. -Australian Illustration Guidelines.
I can't find any hits for this quote, or indeed "Australian Illustration Guidelines".  Who exactly is giving this guidance to who?

They is whoever is responsible for making such a thing happen.
"They" seems a bit vague and overgeneral when it's probably just the one school, though...

I've heard mention of it from 1 or 2, but looking around on the tubes I don't see any examples. So I'm willing to cede the point on this one, it may just be that much horse dung.

Holy crap, I think I must have been tired or something. I completely missed the fact that it was referring to the Perry video. I'm dumb, my bad.

Unintentional insults can be bad too! I'm still going to get a little bothered by people calling things "gay" even if they don't mean to be homophobic.
