Now, here's something to get the Prog Rage flowing, and I'm posting it specifically because I know it will...

Joslin v New Zealand. UN concludes that the ICCPR shows that the right to marry only belongs between a man and a woman, or a woman and a man.

On that note, one of my friends was sharing this picture earlier today.

Of course, you run into the problem of having people who know nothing about a subject being the ones who largely decide.

"ignorance is bliss" is a famous saying.
you see, an ignorant is far more likely to inform himself about a topic, than one who thinks he knows what he's speaking about.
Considering the amount of people that let themselves be "informed" by organizations like these, I'm not sure if that is actually something positive.

Ooh, nice, I'll have to keep that. Do you know where he/she/it got it from? (yes, Google now wants you to tell them whether you are a male, a female, or an it. Goodness forbid where they get it from. If you don't identify as either, just put it as nomale. Or possibly nominmale. :P)

Edit: Bugger, almost forgot - Jacob had more than two wives. He took at least one more. Also, Adam probably (implied) had more than one wife.

It also should be said that when Dinah was raped and 'to be married', as it were, her brothers went and killed everyone in the city. After forcing them to get circumcised.

Friend of mine had a great one as well, but I can't find it anymore.
It said something like: "254 known species practice homosexuality. Only one species practices homophobia. Now which of the two is unnatural?"

Maybe a bit catchier than I just phrased it.

Yeah I saw that one about a week ago and mentioned it in another thread... it's a good one.

Here's another that's been making rounds:

"It's very dear to me, this issue of gay marriage.  Or as I like to call it, 'MARRIAGE.'  You know, because I had lunch this afternoon, not gay lunch.  I parked my car; I didn't gay park it."

The problem with politician's advisors is that all too often they end up giving the positions to relatives and friends, instead of hiring actual advisors. At least this was shown to happen with Eurodeputies on a regular basis....

Well, here's an idea for you: why are you trying to get marriage? Don't even bother with that. What you want to do is to separate church from state, right, because you'll never convince the majority of the people that you'd need to convince to get it from the religious side, so remove marriage from your equation. Make it civil union that you want. Then you've got nothing for the religious people to attack you on.

I would find it necessary to point out here that I am opposed to homosexual relations in any way, shape, or form. While I don't feel that you're warped hellspawn from the ulcer on the Devil's backside, I don't agree that it is right or natural in any way.

And thirdly, why oppose unnatural stuff? You actively protest against plastic as well?

(edit: this assuming the previous two questions were answered satisfactory, which I doubt you could)

Dsarker, in countries where gay marriage has been legalized, it is pretty much a civil union. They aren't  forcing religious organizations to perform the ceremony.

Also, ever heard of this concept called "seperate but equal"? Turned out, it didn't work out so well. I could see some of the more ass-backwards legislatures saying "Okay, we'll allow civil unions. But civil unions only get rights A and B while marriages gets A, B, C, D and E." They could argue that it's not violating seperation of church and state because they didn't specify what kind of marriage, and that they'd accept a Jewish marriage or Hindu marriage or (gasp!) Muslim marriage as valid as well.

Not to mention, some people just WANT an actual wedding not the "lite" version of it. Can you imagine if a football team won the Super Bowl with a gay player, and they told him "Oh, instead of your Super Bowl ring we're giving you this lovely t-shirt instead. It's just like a trophy ring, except for the ring part."

I used to see civil unions as a moderate compromise solution, but the more I've thought about it, the more I see it as still acquiescing to "second-class citizen" status.

i always wonder where is the fuss.
just let them marry each other and let it be.
it's not like they are asking the permission to open an internment camp, or to raze a city.
they're just wanting to marry. let them.
at the very worse they'll just hurt each other like any normal marriage does. but that's really all of it.
if it's wrong, god, if it exist, will take care of it in the afterlife, and that's that. So, let it be.
Another thing might be for the implications concerning some of the privilege for marriage. (like, in america, it might be to avoid fake gay marriages between americans and mexican immigrants, who'd get the card just by "marrying" a men who'd do it for money.) but even then, it's not much more different than if it married a female american, right? so where's the problem?
really, if someone makes a fuss about it, just burn him alive, if he was right he gets paradise after all, and if he was wrong and was just reducing other people free will, which is I believe the foundation of christianity, he'll get used to the flames of hell in no time.
there. problem solved.
