Well alot of us have probably realised if you are a member of the Paradox newsletter you got a free copy of Crusader Kings with the Deus Vult expansion!

This sparked some attention amongst our little community in the DF chat, and we are going to do a succession game. Each player will play until his leader dies, then save, give the save game to the next person on the list and so on.

Alot of us don't have much experience with CK, it doesn't matter all are welcome, I myself have played it quite alot in the past, but am not particularly good at it!

We will be playing as The Duchy of Northumberland.

Currently the playing order is;

There are no 'winning' conditions, this is purely for fun. But for the sake of the more competative of us, I'll ask everyone to record the prestige at the start and end of their reign. This may be stored in the game ledger, I am unsure.

If you want to join in, just say! we will be using vanilla Deus Vult patched to the latest from the CK forum. 2.1beta. If you have any preference to the order, thats fine too.

I'm Duke Morcar Leofricsen.

1071 - Married Gundred De Normandie, at 16 years of age she is the first daughter of the King of England. We took duty on this marriage! Hopefully she will bear many sons! we have no heirs currently.

Within mere months Gundred is knocked up. She has a Son.

We were also approached to start a civil war, but refused and thus I am now considered a steadfast Loyalist.

1073 - Gundred has a second male child, our dynasty is secure!

1074 - War with the Duchy of Gwynedd(Wales), we mobilize our armies as requested by the king!

Gundred has a third son! Her loins are like the Krupp factory!

The war ends the same year with several new fiefs for England.

Gundred has a forth son!!! however he died from a childhood illness

1078 - The King leads a crusade against Jerusalem, we can ill afford this, but we must make sacrifices for the greater good of Christianity.
A year later, the Scots capture large parts of the Levant including Jerusalem itself. The Crusade ends. We are broke. Grrr.


1082 - Gundred had a daughter! but we are still broke

I die. Wulfhere takes over the Duchy, a boy of great talent and judgement and only 10. Unfortunately he inherited the massive debt from the crusades. Good luck.

Dear diary. Dad went Kaput today, and that leaves me in charge of the Estate

The courts say I'm a very "suspicious lil bugger" but I think they're just plotting to stab me in the back.
Economically, we're in a mess even If I set taxes to high, and stop paying money to the church we're still "making" a negative income
Also I found out that we're only getting 90% of our potential income

God dammit.

Mazovia is a great pick. You have many pagans around, and it's relatively easy to get free from Polish kingdom, and via assassinations, bribes & co be first in line of succession 

Winning is fun, if you can win via war as well as peacefully. Bi-winning.

I couldn't figure out how you guys went broke so quickly.

Then I discovered that you agreed to send your troops with the king. 
And he will keep them forever since the AI is stupid about troops.

The king will provide upkeep for your troops, so cut it from your budget.  Besides, do you REALLY care if the king wins or not?

Don't bother. I tried playing with that save only to get screwed over:

All my courtiers have a loyalty of zero, including my steward. And you know what happens when a steward isn't really loyal? Embezzlement of course. That's - ~100 gold every few month to a year. But my steward's not the only one; all of my courtiers are disloyalty incarnate! By the end, I have a 1.6k debt. Even worse from before.

And then, negative stability events due to being in debt fire. Stability drops to -2, and including the bad stuff that come from negative stability. I quickly get negative piety trying to clean up the mess... And then excommunication.

To make it worse, while I'm barely trying to deal with the hell of a mess I'm in, Robert, the next King after William declares war on me for no apparent reason. (And I was directly in line for the throne too. :<)

Try firing all the courtiers.  Then no embezzlement, no bad events from courtiers leaving, etc.
