I drew this and now I realized I have a problem with drawing the main guy's hair. It looks like spaghetti.

Make the hair of a single solid color and then touch it up on photoshop. Make the highlights with a brush with low hardness, medium flow and opacity. Modify the way it blends in.

Takes 4 minutes tops and it looks really good.

That's actually similar what I did, all done in photoshop.

1) Make hair out of a single solid color
2) Add transparent highlights
3) "this looks terrible", add transparent darker colors around the highlights and shadowed areas
4) "now I can't see the highlights", add more highlights

Yeah, you can tell I'm not used to doing realistic looking hair.

beat dredmor

...

non permadeath

pfffffffff
Yeah, the only deaths I had were the ones that I had no way of predicting though. I had 2 arch diggles countering me and double critting me to death from full health on level 10. They are freaking ridiculous. I will take a semi-shameful victory over two hours of blinding rage any day.

mr. macduggan, don't feel bad, I'm sure a lot of people play without permadeath.

...but they aren't cool like me

Yeah, I have had my fill of permadeath over the years. It's actually the reason I play far less dungeon crawl stone soup than I used to. I just have gotten tired of losing characters so often, especially when I can't do anything about it. I have probably lost upwards of 300 characters forever in roguelikes, and I decided it was not really worth it in the end.

DoD amplifies that feeling, I think, because you put so much work into your character per level as opposed to the half-mindless chainsawfest roguelikes like Angband.

Also with dredmor, the monster zoos are so ridiculously imbalanced near the end that even a character with complete ten-star gear and maximum level has no chance of winning without 30 healing potions. I can't imagine trying to fight through one. In the run I ended up doing, I just used move in mysterious way and an invisibility potion for the cooldown time, which got me right through to the other side while only taking one turn of damage. (even so, it almost killed me)

Not even a promethean mage can kill those? I cast 3-4 fire runes and had cleared most of the zoo on level 2. I know the higher ones are harder but isn't fire a solution to everything?

For a bit of a measure of the stupid difficulty of the level 10 zoo (which is the only one I'm griping about, really) I fired 4 bolts of mass destruction, 2 holy hand grenades and 4 bolts of squid and only killed 20 out of the 180 monsters in there...
Also, the arch diggles are able to kill me in one turn if they get a counter even when I have 32 damage resistance.

Blarg.  Died on level 7.  Some named guy did 62 points of damage to me in one turn!

Its kind of a fun game, but it takes far to long to progress compared to other roguelikes.

Wow. Just found this in a Chest of Evil:

Spoiler: Image (click to show/hide)

That's a lot of non-physical damage. Suddenly I'm nearly an effective melee character.

Edit: Died to a named monster that somehow got two attacks on me in one turn (it wasn't a counter, I'm sure, because it showed the full attack animation both times). Oh well. In the top 100, at least.

My run is number 103 on the scoreboard. I should have checked directly after winning, I bet I was in the top 100 for about a day...

I could have sworn that potions used to stack; is this a new bug or just madness on my part? Healing, Mana.. etc.
