So, EoSD suddenly locks up when it gets out of the initial startup screen before the actual title and menu. The music starts playing, but the game freezes and it eats one of my processors. I know nothing more than that. Any ideas? Deleting and using a fresh copy hasn't helped, nor has using one unpatched with that retexture.
Windows 7? right click, go to properties, compatibility tab, and check run as admin and disable visual themes.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Yeah, Windows 7. No change in behavior from doing that. I should clarify it was working fine last week, so I'm not sure what's up here.

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Try windowed mode.

Is my default mode. Oddly, when you suggested that, I tried fullscreen. Works fine. Kind of annoying, I prefer it windowed, but oh well.

EDIT: AHAHAHA I BEAT IT ON EASY I'M THE GREATEST. THEN I GOT TO SAKUYA ON NORMAL AND EVEN MADE IT MOST OF THE WAY THROUGH HER FIRST SPELL CARD AS THE ENDBOSS IN STAGE 5.

So as a sort of bump, here's my progress through Embodiment of Scarlet Devil

First off: I just learned that Shift slows you down and focus your fire, which would have been infinitely more useful had I know earlier. Still, with it I finally manage to beat Sakuya (WHO CAN DIE IN A FIRE) and get to Remilia. I still died like a weasel, but it's an improvement...

No the maid is not a fun fight. I hit the bomb button like Fist of the North Star whenever I see her.

And what the heck do you mean by red magic?

Oh hohohohoho..

99 countdown, last spellcard on normal. Bomb immune....

But no, the maid is hard, so bombs are good there.

Star of david is okay.. If you find the right spots, and not directly next to a bullet spawn.

Non-directional laser is annoying.. I died twice on it.

All right, that's it.

Which one do I play first?

I think Embodiment of the Scarlet Devil is the earliest one that is recognizably Touhou, but Perfect Cherry Blossom is meant to be easier and possibly better for beginners (I wouldn't know - I'm not moving on until I get a non-bad ending on EoSD, damnit).

Imperishable Night, definitely.

Unless you're amasochist, then I'd recommend SA or UFO.
