Journal of Scrubbedcreams 26th Limestone 1060

More migrants, we now number 11 frozen souls. Bedrooms have been dug out, but we lack the wood for beds. A new entrance has been built, with an eye towards traps being laid in hopes of capturing the skeletal yeti that harass us.

Bim came to me today, he insisted on reclaiming the upper floors of old Scrubbedcreams. With a heavy heart I agreed, we needed the stone, and the beds contained therein. Bim decided that he should be the one to break through into old Scrubbedcream and floor over the stairs before any beasts could come from below.

He broke through the wall, and we all waiting for the screams of the beasts we knew waited below. Yet all the greeted us was silence, and fetid air. Bim quickly floored over the stairs leading below. We now hold the top half-dozen floors of old Scrubbedcreams.

Is there's any water in the caverns?

Loads, and three forgotten beasts. I'm planning out my decent into the first layer right now, I want to get down there, and carve out an indoor farm. The space is there, the soil is there, it's just a question of getting down there and not running into more trouble then I can handle.

Are the caverns already visible?
Then you could easily dig below a cavern with water without breaching it again, and setup a drain system to securly get some water away for a farm area.

Not a bad idea...

Yep, once I get the farm set up, and finish out the year I'll start taking requests. I've got about 6 months to go, and should be done today, or tomorrow. I want to make sure I leave the place better then I found it.

Journal of Scrubbedcreams 7th Slate 1061

Migrants! A wave of them, they came scampering across the frozen tundra in a pack, we now can count 31 healthy dwarves among our population. Plans for the farming complex have been laid out, and the digging has begun. Bim had an idea, and I gave my blessing for it to be implemented. He has planned a Forgotten Beast trap. It is well known that these monsters will seek to destroy any building they come in contact with, so, we have planned to trap a beast, and once trapped to fill it with arrows insuring it's doom.

If successful, we can reclaim the middle cavern, and in doing so access to wood, and plants, and space.

My Armok bless us with victory, or a swift death.

Well, at this point we've got 32 dwarfs, 480 food, half of which is seeds. less then a hundred drink, but the number is rising.

A hospital, morgue, bedrooms, farms, food storage, dining room, stills, kitchen, all set up and working.

The surface is lost to us, and there's no real way to reclaim it short of building up a sizable military for constant patrols. I've expanded the surface walls a bit, and gotten rid of that ridiculous single stair tower.

Another forgotten beast has come as well, this one with wings.

I'm going to work on a military, and finish up the topside fortifications then it's hand-off time. it's currently 1st Granite, I'll hand off 1st Galena and you can have a year and a half.

Journal of Scrubbedcreams

I'm done. I don't even care about the date anymore. I've gotten sick of burying the dead, and overseeing the creation of even more corpses. I've done my best, but even with years of labor behind me the fort is still a mess. Our farms barely produce enough food to keep us fed, beer runs low constantly, and the dead are stacked in corners. I've seen far too many of my fellow dwarves, a gaunt haunted look on the face. It pains me.

We have food, we have shelter, we have a few beds, though not enough for our current number, and no access to wood to make more. Our military is a shambles, and the yeti rule the ice above our heads. I have not seen a caravan in over a year, I fear we have been forgotten.

In the past months two more beasts have emerged in the caverns. There are four, five, I've lost count. More likely lost the will to count. I've collected what notes I could find. The stocks are in the mid levels, the farms below. Bedrooms below the farms. We have no metal industry, no animals.

About a half-dozen of our number no longer respond to their own name, or to voice at all, they wander the halls as if already dead. Those that live are not far behind. Some of us prosper though, morbid a thought as it is.

Our walls stand, but no useful fortifications or walkways. There was some sort of bridge fashioned in the days of Old Scrubbedcreams but I never had the time, nor the inclination to make it work.

I leave these thoughts for whoever comes after me.

- Bury the dead.
- Complete the walls, and retake the surface.
- Find a way to grow trees, my back aches for the chance to sleep in a real bed.

Good luck, and may you have better fortunes then I have.
