Expedition Log, 1st Granite 266

Curses! Just as we pass the unfinished temple we are beset by goblins! The war dogs I brought along for such a situation are fighting them, one has already been struck down! I have called our warriors, Mafol Zimtekkud and Vanlade Keskalolin to arms. If we can't fend them off our expedition ends practically before it starts!

Man, reclaims can be harrowing.

How big was the fort before the reclaim? Any FPS issues?

Well, we all died...

I'm going to go in with a squad with more fighting dwarves and then dorf the rest of you guys when the first wave of migrants show up (unless you wouldn't mind being a soldier in addition to you're regular profession).

I didn't have any FPS issues. It was a decent size, seven levels down for the main fortress, and with passages to each of the three cavern levels down to the magma sea.

Ya know... I'm just going to create a new world and then start the fortress from scratch...

Edit: I'll upload the region when the world is finished, so we can choose a starting area together.

Region

Good idea. Embark somewhere with lots of resources, we'll need 'em. And are you planning to make the production area of the fort integrated with the dungeon or notably separate from it?

I was thinking that the dwarven town for the builders would be integrated into the dungeon.

I was thinking of maybe using embark anywhere to embark on a castle. That gives us a good starting point and many great dungeons are under castles, like Castle Greyhawk, Castle Blackmoor, and El Raja Key. However, we need one with the resources we need, which could be tricky. Most them are on aquifers as well, and I really don't want to have to deal with one if I can avoid it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the inhabitants of said castles hostile when you embark on them?

From what I can see there are no inhabitants, at least in the two castles I've checked out.

We could also build our own castle. There should probably be something on the surface, if only a simple, short, tower.

I can deal with an aquifer during my turn if we have one.

So anybody else have any input as to where we should embark?

Besides as many metals as possible, not really. Having a river might be useful, just to guarantee some water.

Aquifers can also be a source of water. I like the castle idea, and they're not all that tough to deal with. Valrandir or myself could handle that turn.
