Think of KotOR as being a sort of proto Mass Effect. It lays out all the future tropes of Bioware RPG's, and was super fun when it came out because there wasn't much else like it. However, it hasn't aged well at all, and you can get a much better experience by just playing Mass Effect or even KotOR 2.

Yes, let's scan all the barren uninteresting rocks for things.

This may be a good time to get Shadowrun Returns along with other goodies in Humble Bundle for $10, if you don't already have it.

I personally don't like Mass Effect a whole lot, but it's functionally the same game as KotOR. It's just more modernized and less clunky with better/less grindy combat.

This is spot on. KotOR is Mass Effect 1 before Mass Effect 1. If you love Bioware RPG's it's probably worth it, and at the time I quite liked it, but it hasn't aged well.

And then, they will be weaponized. Like everything in this game, from kittens to babies, everything is a potential device of murder.
So if baseless speculation is all we have, we might as well treat it like fact.

P. sure there are no swords in Mass Effect. Not even laser swords.

... But it was convenient to have Kaidan/Carth be one of the two people I could choose for the suicide mission in Mass Effect 1, since it provided a convenient way to get rid of him for the entire rest of the series.

(As for star wars games, Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy were more enjoyable in that you actually got to kill stormtroopers. Wow, amazing that these are a decade old now.)

There's a lot of other good games from LucasArts also. I grabbed Tales of Monkey Island, it's the kind of game I like.

i enjoyed both kotor games immensely and played them both through multiple playthroughs, and several short starts.

both games are unpolished, kotor 2 more so.  gameplay is basically a series of long corridors and it lets you decide the order of corridors to go through.  the story in both is pretty poor.  moral choices are rather crap.  the "light" side makes you a naive simpleton, and the "dark" side makes you an asshole.

of the two, kotor 2 has the better story, better characters and better voice acting.

kotor 2 can benefit from fan mods, but be careful as some of these can make the game unbeatable (at least it was so for me but this was years ago).

so if you like star wars lore, and want to play as jedi/sith, these are games that should be in your library despite their failures.

Spintires 40% off on Steam, $18.

I think that's the lowest price it's been yet, but I forecast 50% discount in the Steam winter sale, followed by a retail price drop.

I may purchase it anyway.  LEGO Hobbit is not holding my interest.

Hmm, I had the sense that the devs were not fixing bugs, but I see it just got a patch release two days ago.  The promised mod support didn't make it in.

They have updated and improved KoDP a bit, but only the iPad version.  The developer stated that he was not going to port the art assets or make any further improvements to the PC version

the hell, you say:  https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.herocraft.kodp&hl=en

Actually, I'm a little bit shocked that the above link is a thing.  I was just googling to find out exactly what was improved in the iOS version, and that item came up.

Going to drop $5 on this now...

Dayum! That's new. Also likely to be bug ridden for awhile.

HeroCraft did it? WTF? They have so many other games this may just end up on the abandoned pile. Hmm. Still considering it.
