That whole "Reinvent Michigan" ad campaign used by now-Governor Rick Snyder has taken on a different tone, all of the sudden.

It's true, Michigan is in dire straits. I've been jobless for nearly a year, and most of my extended family have lost their jobs, with only my step-dad having managed to keep his by absorbing the workload of 3 of his peers. Detroit is a wreck of a city, with whole districts burned out and untouched since the 60s, and a long line of mayors who have siphoned money into their personal accounts... the most recent having been impeached (and thank god) not for the years he repurposed city funds to buy expensive gadgets and cars for him and his friends, but for lying about an affair under oath, in Clintonesque fashion.

My city and state is a wreck, with no jobs, corruption aplenty, school districts failing to meet standards since I was a child, houses being foreclosed on and threatening at least 3 families I know with homelessness, and main streets with 1/5 stores closed and boarded up... and I'm not even in a bad city, but just outside of the nicest and biggest University in the state. If there was a cause and a situation to invest emergency powers in a governor, this would be the time. Hell, my family's library is so near closing that they have to charge a $100 membership fee, or they couldn't afford to even check out books.

The lack of balances in place reeks of potential for all manner of political abuses, so here's hoping that the bill gets a decent measure of revision before it hits the state (Huh, passed already, did it?)... but if this may lead to getting the state back on its feet, I would not be opposed. I only hope they keep things ethical, and minimize their going over the heads of others in cases where it's not needed.

Man, I knew that there were good reasons for me to want to leave this place ASAP, but this really cements it. Now, the question is, where do I move TO?

Don't constitutional challenges only occur when someone actually has standing to make a challenge...like, "only once they have attempted to apply the law"?  In general I don't think you can object to a law just for being on the books.
Not exactly. You have to be able to prove that you will be directly affected by the law, but if you can make a solid argument that the very existance of a law, rather than specific enforcement of it (such as overbroad antipricay stautes), is illegal, you don't have to wait for it to be used. For example, challenges to some of the anti-video-game laws (the ones that tried to enforce the ESRB in law) were filed mere hours after the law was signed.

Arizona had a nice new law to address the illegal immigrant issue.  It had a stay placed on it and was in legal battles over constitutionality before the ink even dried.

2.  It puts faith in the American corporation as "ethical".  I still fondly remember a long ago psychological analysis of the American corporation as an individual entity.  The findings in a nutshell, well, if they were individuals we'd call them psychopaths.
I would very much like to have this saved somewhere. Do you have a link or some more specific keywords?

Also, are the newspapers flaring up over this yet, as our thread did?

Imagine a cool peice of sky-blue and milk-white marble about 3cm by 2cm and by 0.5cm, containing a tiny 2mm malacolite crystal. Now imagine the miles of metamorphic rock it's embedded in that no pick or chisel will ever touch. Then, imagine that those miles will melt back into their mantle long before any telescope even refracts an image of their planet. The watchers will be so excited to have that image too.

Arguing that corporations are ethical is somewhat like this:

I admit that I'm not an expert, but what does relativity have to do with radio?

Radio? It's important for GPS (global positioning system) due to relativistic time shifts between satellites and receiver.

Because relatively governs light and radios are base on light, and GPSs are based on very precisely timed light.

Alas, CAD likely doesn't have a relevant comic, and I don't want to check.

We bailed to Colorado 2006 when the shit started hitting the bricks but now my dad is moving to Utah >_>
Go to the south, more jobs are coming out there now, may not have the large nasty lakes but thats where its booming now.

I'd love to find it again myself, read it over 8 years ago.  I just remember the gist of it unfortunately.

Sort of like I'm trying to find some info still on a waste recycling project that was based in Ohio, Indiana, or somewhere, that could refine organic waste into petroleum products.
