I just discovered the excellent music of Ewan Dobson and instantly thought it would be a great fit as bg music for DF.  A number of his pieces have similar qualities to the default music, the most obvious being that it's a single guitar instrumental.

Also, Super Meat Boy! soundtrack is quite amazing, but I prefer a style consistent with the original for DF while playing.  Veok, if you haven't listened to Souleye's PPPPPP album for VVVVVV, it has a number of fantastic tracks in the same vein you'd probably like.

Im in the tv/film camp myself. I play fps with music, but one of the reasons that df dominates my playing time is because it lends itself so well to second monitor tv... As said earlier, stuff like comedy is good, but ive watched countless US series with df in front of me. Im fanatic about efficiency so i spend a lot of time paused and planning anyway.
