Two immediate answers:

2) I love that surrounding yourself in fire is very tame for these forums.

Really, nobody around here would even blink if the OP had said that they had intentionally set themselves on fire in order to keep the boogeymen away, and are now wondering how to put the fire out.

Why one would neglect that the Bogeymen would still come, thus causing the crux of this situation.
And lastly, I didnt mean it in a critical way. I just cant help but notice how it was treated as completely normal to surround oneself with campfires.

It's treated as completely normal because this is Dwarf Fortress.  There's absolutely nothing wrong with surrounding yourself with a wall of flames, only to later realize that you're surrounded by a wall of flames.

"Wall of flames" is a description of something which, at the very least, is not actively trying to kill you, and is therefore less dangerous than whatever you created it to deal with, in the same way that an artificial volcanic eruption is marginally less dangerous than a few hundred goblins.

Ah. I see. Personally, if I tried this it would be because I trhought you could go through them and the bogeymen would be burned if they tried. Yeah, I didn't take it as critical at all. Just wondering how I misunderstood your comment.
