@bartavelle:  Are you OK with people making modifications to the code and redistributing it? I've never noticed a license on it, so I've only told folks on Windows 2k how to make it work instead of just sending them the fixed file.  If you were OK with it I'd just send them the file directly if they didn't understand the instructions.

I've also been chewing on a mod or two to the program, if I actually get the spare time to wrap my head around it and I make an actual useful mod do you take patches to the code?

@Empty:  I'm about a month late since I missed your post (sorry!), but you can edit the python files in notepad.  So if you open dfwin32.py in notepad and turn this line:
psapi.GetProcessImageFileNameA.restype = self.ValidHandle
so it looks like this (note the #):
#psapi.GetProcessImageFileNameA.restype = self.ValidHandle
DC will run on Windows 2k.

I can't figure out how to install this at all. I followed the directions, but now what do I run after I run dfcompanion_prototype.py?

downloading the 'stand alone' version would probably be best.

I have no problem whatsoever with modification of the program. As I no longer really maintain it (at least till next version), you can just modify it and post a link on the main wiki page.

I believe it's on the bottom row.
Not sure how you'll be able to get him back to working, though.
Heal - remove both "dead" flags - turn into bronze collosus - wait until no longer flashing the wounded symbol - turn into dwarf.

I never tried the bronze colossus idea, but I think I've found out why that works, and how to get around it.

Trying to ressurect a dead dwarf, she kept dying on me.  I turned her into a zombie to let her wander around, but it wasn't until the third or fourth attempt that I realized she was dragging her guts along behind her, she'd gotten disemboweled and just HEALING her wasn't going to put them back in.

Two separate flags were set that I hadn't seen before:
0x8.6b and 0x4000b

the 0x8.6b one didn't seem to do anything when uncheched, and I can't swear that it isn't needed.  But removing 0x4000b put her entrails back inside her body, and removing the zombie flag left her tired and pissed, but not dying all the time.

Hope this helps people out.

I think it's actually the "bleeding to death" status not being cleared.

Bronze colossi don't bleed.

Anyone here have a flag/flags you'd use to change oveer your dwarves' faction? I'd like a parallel fort pair running a civil war without the berzerk free for all the methods I've seen so far cause.

For now faction is based on "civilization id" and race. However, for civil wars stuff i believe race is what matters, so you would need to create a new dwarf race and change the race of all the guys you don't want to control.

Okay, this is not working. The standalone utility is completely useless to me - where's all this functionality I keep hearing about? When I try to open up anything in python, it gives me a DOS box and then closes it before I can read anything. The command line utterly fails to do anything, either, giving me errors no matter what I type in.

How _exactly_ do I _start the program_ AFTER I've installed everything and run dfcompanion_prototype.py? I've tried running every single .py and .pyc file, nothing, same result, it all quits before I can see anything.

Downloaded/updated the new version of gtk+ for use with Pidgin's IM client, and would appear it stops Dwarf Companion from working. Will probably wait for the next version of DF and DC.

Downgrading would probably allow it to work in your case Jetman.

Ah, okay. So where can I get a previous version?

Edit: Nevermind, found one that works... Except, you know, it doesn't work. Now I'm getting a new error message, and I quote:

"The procedure entry point gdk_cairo_set_source_pixmap could not be located in the dynamic link library libgdk-win32-2.0-0.dll."
