It was linux compatible at version 0.1  :) now it just isn't. You might want to try the executable version !

You mean a windows version emulated using wine?

Does that mean I need to download the installer?

I can't use the complied version myself since I'm still Win2k, so I had to go through all the steps of installing the stuff and then commenting out the line I mentioned a few posts ago.  Then it worked!  (It'd be nice for an OS check, I don't know if Python can tell the difference between NT, 2000, XP & Vista however.)

@Steelgeek:  Wild guess: is the dwarf missing limbs, bleeding or both?</STRONG>

Could you perhaps upload that file? Or tell what program you used to edit it? I can't figure it out :

Got some questions, seeing I can't get DC to start. If I have the dfcompanion-0.11-exe, do I have to install all those other files (python/GTK+ etc)? I have an old version of GTK+ installed on my comp, will this interfere with DC? Can I run DC on winME? Does the folder need to be anywhere in particular?

Also the error message I get when trying to run the dfcompanion-0.11-exe:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "dfcompanion_prototype.py", line 4, in ?
  File "dwarfdbg.pyc", line 9, in ?
  File "dfwin32.pyc", line 8, in ?
File "ctypes\__init__.pyc", line 415, in __getattr__
File "ctypes\__init__.pyc", line 340, in __init__
WindowsError: [Errno 31] A device attached to the system is not functioning

Any input would be appreciated!

You need to have a recent GTK version, old versions WILL conflict if they are in a systemwide zone.

And I have no clue about winME, didn't thought it was still out there ...

I got rid of my old GTK, and I get the same error message. Do I need to install python and the new version of GTK if I use the exe version of DC? Where should I put the folder of DC at?

Yep, I use winME, haven't got a new comp since 2000!

DC can live everywhere without trouble. Seems like it's a ME miscompatibility (for information, it doesn't work with win 2000 too ...)

So do I need to install python and GTK if I use the exe version of DC?

Nope, the .exe version brings along everything it needs to run effectively.

Ah thanks Kagus and bartavelle! Guess I'll try it out when I upgrade my comp.

Does this still work in the most recent version?

Yes it does.  I've been using it extensively for various little things, including DnG.

It will have a brief period of incompatibility with the upcoming version though.

Actually, if there are no changes in the specific functions that the tool is looking for, and in the creature structure, it should work without modifications.

One can hope!
