on indiegala you can claim as a freebie "30mn to die"
https://freebies.indiegala.com/30-minutes-to-die-alpha
It's on the same genre (nearly a clone) as "Vampire Survivor" but does not seem to have any class unlock.

edit : it's apparently -very- early alpha, explaining why there's nothing to unlock, so few different weapons (the "aura" is very usefull, the orbit thing sometime is, but everything else is mostly useless as even upgraded they're too weak) and some things are just not there like the "increase your luck to have a 4th slot" when there's no luck stats at all to improve.

Oh well, the free/demo version of vampire survivor on itch is more feature packed than this one (and oddly this "30mn to die" game executable is named "VampSurv.exe" )

This week on the epic store there's "Ring of Pain" as a freebie, apparently it's a "roguelite card game".

Next week they will offer as freebie "Shadow of the Tomb Raider" again (though this time it will be "only" SotTR , not the 3 games of the Tomb Raider Survivor collection) and "Submerged Hidden Depths"

On gog you can claim for free the game "Dex" :
https://www.gog.com/en/game/dex

It's a side scroller/platformer set in a cyberpunk city, reminding a bit of the Shadowrun setting.

edit : checking the gog board, apparently the devs ceased development after releasing patch 7.0 on steam ... but never bothered to add that patch to the gog version and they left the gog users with an inferior version of the game (as patch 7.0 added a lot of bugfixes and improvements).
Not sure why gog is making this game as a temporary freebie, gog shouldn't give some publicity to developers that treat the gog customers like that.

Yes and no... It can also be a way to bring the public on their side. Like: fix your game this reflects badly on you, not us.

It could also be so that they don’t have to deal with customer complaints from people who actually spend money on the game.

Customers will happily complain about free things.

People may remember
Panzer General Forever ( http://www.pgforever.info/ ), a free game that is a remake of Panzer General 1 (but that removed the nice battle animations of PG1 :/ ? )
Open General ( http://www.open-general.com/ ), a free game based on Panzer General 2

Recently i spotted Panzer Marshal a free game that seems to be also based on Panzer General 2 (and is a fork from Open General from what i understand), but features a more modern UI than Open General
https://openpanzer.itch.io/panzermarshal

I suggest when you run the installer to change the install directory to something like   C:\Panzer Marshal\   as by default it seems to want to install the game in your C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\...   for some reason
edit : there's a manual here
https://nicupavel.github.io/openpanzer-manual/

On gog they're giving away "Lovecraft's Untold Stories"
https://www.gog.com/fr/game/lovecrafts_untold_stories
It's a "roguelite" top down shooter with various characters/playstyle.

Noticed on itch.io , several of the commercial Maestro Cinetik games are currently free to claim

- Cauldrons of War : Stalingrad https://maestro-cinetik.itch.io/cauldrons-of-war-stalingrad
- Cauldrons of War : Barbarossa  https://maestro-cinetik.itch.io/barbarossa
- J.Edgar Hoover vs Kennedy https://maestro-cinetik.itch.io/jedgar-hoover-vs-kennedy

The Cauldrons of War games are historical wargames that are set on an operational decisions level instead of a classic hexagons system, very interesting.

Note : you need to have an account on itch.io in order to be able to claim a commercial game they're hosting when they're made "free to claim" for a time.

+/-72 hours to claim on gog the game "Immortal Redneck"
Quote
Immortal Redneck is an FPS set in Egypt with rogue-lite elements. The game mixes old-school first-person shooter action with rogue-lite mechanics. Frantic gameplay, twitch controls and an arcade-style feel meet randomly generated dungeons, a complete skill tree, permanent death and 9 classes with different traits.

Summary reminds me of Ziggurat that was a FPS with "roguelite" elements, hopefully it will be less mediocre than Ziggurat was.

2 very good freebies for this week on the epic store :

Ark Survival Evolved (was given once a bit more than a year ago)
Gloomhaven (PC adaptation of the excellent boardgame )

(note : Ark has a bunch of huge free DLC , but be sure to check your hard drive size, as huge is not just about the size of the game worlds of those DLC)

Time to remind people that are repelled by the idea of installing the epic launcher with all the controversies they heard about it :
Legendary is a legal and open source alternative to the epic launcher that allow you to play the games you own on the epic store without ever having to install the epic launcher.
https://github.com/derrod/legendary

But it's using command lines (nothing complicated though if you read the instructions), but there are easy to use frontends like Rare or Heroic Launcher that are also open source and are very user friendly. (Heroic Launcher seems more regularly updated)

Why is that, btw? If Epic was really as evil as they say, they'd make you install their launcher whereas they seem to have an open API.
(Also what is up with GOG Galaxy? It will show you your Epic Games, but it won't install them. Does it at least launch them if installed with EL?)
