So we spend a fair portion of autumn doing the same "quick, gather all the plants so we don't die!" thing. That miner whose name I forget and TolyK work on irrigating the underground portion of the farm; we have approximate one metric ass-ton of those seeds so getting that done will probably save everyone's life.

Some more migrants arrive, hopefully they can help out.

A dyer, who is an idiot, I tell him to farm instead.
A mason. Fine.

... And that's it. Two migrants. If that's all, that mason has to be a butcher. We need a damn butcher.

I've had, uh, what's her name, the woodcutter, on brewing for a while now. We've got enough booze for now, I guess.

The liaison and caravan have arrived. Haven't managed to get anyone on mugs yet. Oh well, I can trade them those rough gems.

In exchange for a handful of shinies, we buy all the plump helmets and cave lobster they have.

Winter is upon us.

The liaison asks me what I have for trade requests. I request a number of things; you can check the agreement in the 'c'ivs screen. In return they request a number of things. That agreement is also available in the 'c'ivs screen, but I had to post it. Rock bars herp derp.

The mist generator is finally finished. This should keep us distracted if starvation ever looms large again.

It occurs to me that perhaps I ought to move the supplies from the wagon inside, so I check to see what's left. Not a lot. No big complex plans for this; just tell the dwarves to move it to the pantry. I'll find a better place for it later.

The front drawbridge needs a lever. TolyK can get on that.

The merchants have left. Bye merchants, thanks for saving our lives!

Whoooops, didn't keep my eye on the booze stocks. Brewer, uh, person, get on that. ... She's asleep. Fine, I'll just do it myself, then.

Bridge is all linked up. It's in my office, for future reference.

Out of barrels. =/ How do we keep filling them up so fast?

I get someone on cutting all those rough gems; if it comes to that again, a cut gem should be worth more.

Winter ends, and with it my term as leader. I pass the reins to Dragoobie (I even went into the 'n'obles screen and changed the expedition leader, because why not?), and settle down to brew booze and manage jobs until I am called on again.

Status. Dwarves. The ones named "!" are members of the original seven who have not yet been dorfed into forumites.

I've left a few notes around the fort, if they're confusing just ask me.

Save.

You're up for year 5.

My turn's over, so it's up to Dragoobie to dorf you. Once he shows up.

Yeah, I took you off the list, TolyK.

Well, to be accurate, I moved you from one list to the other, since you're still dorfed.

RandAnima hasn't even been on all day.

If Deviled wants to jump ahead, he can.

I'm here! I will pick up the save and get on it tonight. If anyone objects to me taking as much as 4 days to complete my year, I will gladly postpone my turn, otherwise I will update once a day until I am done. Thank you either way :-)

Status update.

Playing now, I'll have the first half of my year up this afternoon. Nothing has occured in the month of granite other than getting my bearings.

I've never had to make sense of someone else's fort before, that's fun in itself. Once I got the hang of the layout, billbobfred, I was impressed. The perpetual mist generator is a nice touch, and from a defense standpoint we're looking good.

I guess that's why Random and billbobfred are…wait for it…lovers.

We are, huh? I never keep track of that stuff. ... Which I guess makes me a terrible boyfriend. And it can't help my leadership skills, either. Come to think of it, what must the dwarves think of the last-minute announcement that my girlfriend is taking over the fort instead of Dragooble?

I can't build a dining room without a mist generator. It's just not a thing I can do. And of course, it has to be perfectly centered, with all the tables facing the statues... I'm a bit OCD about my dining rooms, it seems.

Diary of Random Mineblunts, Hammerdwarf, Fortress Overseer, and Femme Fatal

1st Granite

Success! Using my feminine wiles, I have convinced billybobfred to make me overseer.  Understand I have not used him for my own ambition, entirely.  Any she-dwarf would be lucky to snag a brewer, and besides, his braided mustache is soooo dwarfy.

Anyway, first order of business is the fact I have no hammer.  Allow me to repeat.  I.  Have.  No.  Hammer.  I step on a nugget of sliver and bellow to whatsis face to get me some Armok damned charcoal going.

20th Granite

All is going well, and an aura of joy fills our humble fort.  I mean, have you SEEN the fucking waterfall?  My silver is smelted, and I have decided to make my own hammer from it, to better bond with my weapon, the first of many to be wielded in our fort's defense.

In other news, though our food supply remains steady, it rather lacks in the meat department.  I am not an Armok damned castrated long legged elf.  I want me some meat!  You there, kill that kitten!

The kitten promptly adopts Dragoobie.

Fuck.
Kittens.

Yeah, I said it.  Oh well, we still have that tasty looking muskox.

25th Granite.

So, there I was, passed out on the ground after a rousing five day training session, when shouts were heard from the surface.  I rushed out with my hammer, ready to crack some goblin (or even better, elf liaison) rib cages.  No luck, just migrants.  I tapped them a bit, just cuz.

New faces:
Tulon, novice engraver, mason, tanner.
Kogsak, adequate clothier, talented miner, competent strand extractor
Lor, skilled mason, competent gem setter and cutter, novice leader
Adil, novice diagnostician and wood burner
Mestthos, accomplished fish dissector (ooooerr!), adequate pump operator
Kadol, a "jeweler" with a suspicious talent for violence
Rigoth, carpenter and marksdwarf
Shorast, a high master stone crafter
Id, novice tanner
Catten, a lye maker, who thankfully has military, and therefor useful, skills
Devling, a hunter who brought his very own steel crossbow
Nomal, a glass maker
Another Lor, this one a fisher dwarf and cook
Cadol, a high master metal crafter
Adil, a tanner and wood crafter

(They just keep coming!  Sweet man-milk of Armok! Did a party just let out somewhere?)

Zuglar, a swords dwarf
Tulon, ditto
Obok, miller and surgeon

Soothedarmors is now home to 32 dwarfs.  They also brought a range of four legged friends.  billybobfred! How do you spell barbecue?

I was just thinking how I needed more hands around here, but really, what am I going to do to keep all these dwarfs busy?

(Answer, dig down, make an army.)

***********

Okay, I've got a lot more than this played, it just seemed like a good breaking off point to post, since there are many dwarfs to be claimed.
