a CS??

ive never had a misreport like that, usually its like a false report of too many DD's or CL's etc for myself.

Yeah. Lots of tankers there so one of them might have been first reported a CVE. 2 days nothing but tankers, 2 cruisers and smaller vessels, no CVs of any sort.

March 26th

Vildebeests are unbelievable. 12 attack again, 4 shot down by Zeroes many damaged, but still they manage to score 15 hits. Out of 16 bombs! 3 more ships are lost but at least it looks like enough survivors made it to the shores to take Balikpapan.

At Java Sea Dutch bombers attack the main fleet but get slaughtered by first Zeroes, then AAA. All going according to plans here.

Tomorrow should be interesting as the enemy surely reacts.

All of the Allies aircraft are ridiculous gods that are impossible to shoot down. damn them and their armor.

no matter my numbers, vs theirs, i never feel like i get a "great" ultimate air victory. It turns into a slow grind over weeks to destroy them. Usually with like 1 plane of mine lost for 2 of theirs, even with superiority in numbers.

March 27th

Very busy day today!

China: Grinder keeps going.

Burma:

Heavy fighting, the Allies have brought 3 Chinese Army Corps to fight here... I dont see a breakthrough towards Rangoon any soon.

In the air, the massive battles start again. Approximately 26 Hurricanes and 3 P-40s are shot down, but at the cost of 12 Ki-43s(+ 4 to ops) and 21 Ki-48 bombers. The 60-Ki-43 sweep did very well against the Hurries!

Java Sea, Wood Boot:

All men ashore now! Some 450 men and some equipment lost at Semarang(LZ 1) to surf and weather, but 39,000 men are safely ashore, no enemy resistance. At Kalindjati, another 8,000 ashore with no resistance(some Dutch hiding in the bushes though). Christmas Island invaded, troops all ashore with no losses.

Balikpapan falls! Oil and refineries 95% intact. Tandjo-something falls in the North, as does Ponape in the Celebes.

Allied Air Force(s) try to interrupt. Again Vildebeests fly through Zero-CAP like it wasnt there, and sink 2 more transports. 2 more will likely sink within 24 hours. In the afternoon the Zeroes finally engage before target run and kill every single one of them.

L-212s and T.VIas attack the main force off Java, with H-75 escort, they get slaughtered and score no hits.

Summary so far:

a) while the Balikpapan force took heavy losses, they still succeeded and are likely to hold even a possible counter attack.

b) 47,000 troops ashore in Java. The secondary force will turn to Batavia, while the main force first releases an element to cut the island(and the railroads, so that the North part is cut off and can only be supplied and evacuated by air) and main body heads to Soerebaja.

I'll add a map later.

The map here.

Also, T. Sasai of Hosho-1 becomes the first Carrier Ace, scoring his 5th and 6th kills today.

So it looks like your only serious resistance in the island campaign is likely to come on Java? Everything else looks spread out and only in need of mopping up.

Hopefully at least... Theres FOW however and I only have Java and Timor recced, so units dont show up even if they are there.

March 28th

Another busy day!

Burma: Allies have another supply convoy that was spotted unloading at Rangoon yesterday, so today the fighters concentrate on sweeping Rangoon before G4M strike. In the battles around Rangoon 2 Zeroes and a Ki-43 are lost, enemy losses are estimated just 11 P-400 Airacobras, 5 P-40s and 3 Hurricanes.  :P 2 more Zeroes are lost as OPSL elsewhere.

G4Ms go in after the enemy CAP is stripped down, and sink a medium sized xAK.

Dutch East Indies:

Both LZ 1 and LZ 2 cleared(Semerang and Kalidjiki). Christmas Island holds today but most likely falls tomorrow. Next step is cutting the island to prevent troop and supply movements. Dutch bombers of assorted types try their luck today, too, but results are no different(Of the approx 15, Zeroes shoot down 9, the rest turn home).

There seem to be quite a lot of troops at Batavia in the Northern tip of the island, Ki-21s tasked to bomb them to burn their supplies and keep them suppressed.

Philippines: Just 2, separate, Allied forces left in the Mindanao. The bigger one surrenders today.

Still in the same unit, but now at Cagyan in Mindanao. I forgot to bring anything with aviation support so as soon as theres a free cargo ship the unit is transferred to Bedeloab!

Is my tank commander still alive?

In Java atm actually, I'll check the unit's situation later.

March 29th

China: meat grinder keeps going, a Chinese Corps is retreated in the North, now the supply route to Paotow and the northernmost advancing units is clear again.

Wood Boot:
Troops advance with no resistance, a tank regiment is at the Southern coast tomorrow. Dutch fighter force throws everything it has against LZ I, and actually manage to achieve air superiority of a sort, but lose 7 Hawk-75s and 1 CW-21 in doing so. Japanese losses are 1 Zero from CV Junyo, damaged and written off after landing.

2 x 139W bombers attack egressing transports, but Ki-43s flying CAP from Palembang shoot down them both.

Christmas Island holds another day, but today the Japanese losses are less than 10% of yesterday's and last line of defenses is passed.

CarDiv II advances to the South East now South to Sumatra, just within search range. Its aircraft find nothing but sea, and no Allied aircraft are sighted - this force is probably still unsighted, and will probably be able to get the surprise.

Question:

Is there a special amount of engineers you should bring with your army per AV?

I keep bringing like 3 Engineer squads with every 2000 AV, but i think i need to double it since fortification dont like going down every turn.

Thoughts?

I think its absolute number of engineers vs. adjusted defending AV... Had lots of engineer units with the invasion force because there isnt much use for them anywhere else, and I'll probably need them cracking Soerebaja's defenses.

EuchreJack: 1st Tanks lost 2/3 of its strength in the transport ship collision prior to invasion... The hurt ship is safe but the unit is divided. 21 tanks and 7 trucks in Java, with the main force.

March 30th

Again the Allies challenge the air superiority over LZ 1, today with just fighters. 3 Zeroes are lost to all reasons, with one pilot killed from Hosho-1, to 7 CW-21s, 2 or 3 B-339s and 2 Hawk-75s.

Today, the city of Djokjartra falls to the ever victorious forces of the Empire of Japan! As do Christmas Island and Nauru in the South East Pacific.

A lone B-17 attempts low altitude bombing at Balikpapan, but behold, the lone Zero flying CAP shoots in down it the first pass. Nice!

Submarines spot some naval traffic(quite a lot actually) between New Guinea and Australia, the bombers at Rabaul are allowed to attack out to max range, naval search increased.

Another Question for you buddy.

Do you invade Terakan directly by sea, or do you land in the base next to it and do a slow walk over to it?

I went to invade Terakan(in Borneo) by sea, and there was what seemed to me a very large coastal defense installation, that sank almost all my transport ships, but did minimal dmg to my cruiser escorts... I lost trying to invade directly with 2 divisions of infantry since they all died on the boats nearly  >:(.

Funny thing is Reading the history of the Invasion of Tarakan, i dont see any such mention of the coastal defenses of doom...

Wait... can I do a "fast transport" mission to drop off infantry during an invasion at night? maybe thats the solution?
