Weirdest food you've been offered?
« on: January 09, 2011, 05:15:48 pm »

Well, I couldn't find a proper place for this discussion so I'll just put it here for the time being. I have for some time been quite bemused over what the merchants offer me in terms of food - sure, there's the regular -horse blood barrel-, +prepared draltha tripe+ and *leopard sweetbread* fare, but one thing I've yet to figure out how they get, or even eat, is this.

Prepared Firefly Brain.

I mean, seriously? The brain of an insect not even two inches long, presumably with the brain itself being so small as to be almost invisible? How did you even get that out? And for the love of Armok, how did you manage to prepare it?? You can barely even see it, let alone cook it in any way imaginable that wouldn't get it completely lost in the process, and even then, it would be so tiny you'd probably not even notice you swallowed it.

And that begs the question of exactly how the merchants procured it, and brought it to the fortress... but more importantly, how in Armok's name it still counts as a full meal for an adult working dwarf! Or, for that matter, how they find it in the bottom of the large wooden barrels it seems to be necessary to store it in. Oh well... just another mystery for the ages I think, and proof of the insanity, hilarity and general awesomeness that is DF ;)

Just thought I'd share .P

Brilliant It's near invisible and counts as a full meal, we just need a ton of these and then we can last forever

Maybe they have hundreds of thousands firefly brains, cooked into a patty.

You should actully mod that in and make the meat meltable into bronze.

I'm still amazed by how one cat can feed a dwarf for a few seasons.

The very concept of Dwarven Cheese is the weirdest food in the game, no debate.

Despite it not being a food, a barrel of Bluejay blood is pretty horrific, how many birds do you have to kill to get a whole barrel?

I thought a meal of fishwoman was interesting.

Socks.  Lots and lots of socks.  It's the greatest Dwarven vice of all, outstripping alcohol by several orders of magnitude: the desire to own and haul as many feet-warming tubes of cloth as possible.
It's the tent of Hilarious Flying Shenanigans!  Everyone's favorite circus.

What do you even do with all the barrels of blood?  They creep me out so I haven't been buying any.

You could have berries on the rocks and the dwarves would say it was "berry gneiss."
You should die horribly for this. And I mean that in the nicest possible way.

Just sell them back to the caravans, if you wind up with any. Barrels of blood/ichor don't have a use, except to clog up the inventory screen during caravan purchases.

A few of my elephants were tamed with the butchered and prepared intestines of other elephants in the same herd. Apparently it's just as suitable as a strawberry.

Too bad.  I really only wanted the barrels.  Pity there's no vampire civ to cart them off to.

Would it work to designate the blood (not barrel) for dumping?  It works with gnomeblight...If not forbid the blood and take the barrels to the depot

That's what cages and minecart shotguns are for!  We don't need to control them.  We just need to aim them.
