Eh, details, details. Unfortunately, still no word on whether or not the world will be seamless. I guess that means no, and welcome back awkward cell transitions.

and city walls. and the levitate ban.

the levitate ban.

Pfft, they've had 200 years between the games. I bet you anything Levitate has now become a lost spell, like Passwall.

Slowfall could save you in such a situation as well, but oddly enough that was also mysteriously absent. I guess Jean-Luc Uriel outlawed falling as well, and that's despite the fact that there is at least one quest-related situation in which it would come extremely handy. Instead, your character is advised to wear boots that fortify acrobatics. Which, due to a bug, does nothing to mitigate the resulting fall damage. Jolly well done, Bethsoft.

Or you can use the Unofficial Oblivion Patch, which fixes the bug. :P

Caves still look kinda bad, outside looks great. Apparently Oblivion had one dungeon designer, where Skyrim will have 8. I'm lookin' forward to what they make. Randomly generated landscapes are out, all locales are hand-crafted.

 http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1165346-oxm-uk-new-info-screens/

Graphics look terrible.  It looks like they took Oblivion and swapped in some *slightly* higher rez textures and added some new models.  This could have passed off for an expansion for Oblivion and nobody would have known the difference.  Notice how similar the walls of the cave look to Oblivion, or the way the guy is crouching while hunting the deer, or the textures on the trees, or the Goblin skin on that Giant.  It is Oblivion redux.

This is the first Elder Scrolls game where the jump from the previous version wasn't jaw-dropping like Arena->Daggerfall, Daggerfall->Morrowind, and Morrowind->Oblivion.  You can thank all the Console fanboy/lovers for holding innovation back for this BS.

I've crossed this game off my list of games I'm buying this year.  While the "emergent quests" feature sounds interesting, there is far too much about this game that bothers me and seeing the actual screens put the nail in the coffin for me.  True PC RPG games are dead.

Gotta say, the only screenshot that looks appealing to me is that last one, with the dragon perched atop that structure.

The undead in the cave look a little more detailed...  Maybe the boulders do too...  But that lighting quality and the fuzzy/foggy thing in the background look like they came right out of Oblivion.

The giant/troll/whatever guy looks a little more detailed...  But not much different from the stuff I fought in Oblivion.

And the guy hunting the deer?  That looks like it could be an screenshot from Oblivion.

Bullshit. The lighting improvements make a clear improvement here, and the trees are much better than how Oblivion handled them. And the guy has skin that doesn't look plastic. I kinda wish to see the deer more up close though, to see how well they handled fur.

Wow, the B12 forums arguing over graphics...

I frankly don't care if it looks EXACTLY like Oblivion if they just make it feel like Morrowind. We already know that this is Generic Cold Fantasy World #233062, though, so there goes that idea.

Totally agreed, it's beautiful.

If it looks pretty (It does) and it has a creation set (Which we already know it does.) the community will take it from there. Even if it had 4 hours of story, 2 characters, and a half-dozen different baddies, I would still love it on the grounds that they threw out the old engine.

Not to mention the arm in the hunter actualy looks like an arm rather then two pieces of 3d art articulated togheder. Looks really nice, less flashy fantasy stuff, more nordic barbarian-eske stuff.

True PC RPG games are dead.

To be quite fair, they have been for some time. It's not like that's a startling new revelation, nor is it Bethsoft's fault.

I kinda wish to see the deer more up close though, to see how well they handled fur.

Given that they couldn't be bothered to do even human hair properly, I'm guessing the answer to that question is going to be "badly". Again I have to contrast Bethsoft's best efforts against the achievements of another developer, this time Team Ico and their Shadow of the Colossus, which had astonishingly good looking fur and grass even with the meagre performance of the PS2. Seriously, check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRPOEUGD1Tc
Yes, it's not really fur, it's faked using a bunch of transparent layers and the 3D effect is basically just these layered cross-sections of the fur parallax scrolling with respect to the camera, but it's pretty damn impressive for its day and hardware. I would dearly love to see Bethsoft just go off and do something wildly creative like that, but so far it sadly looks like Skyrim's going to be strictly formula.
Il-2 Sturmovik uses the same technique to create its forests, btw. Which look great from a few thousand meters, but are really easy to crash into when you're flying low, since edge-on you can't see them. /tangent

They threw out the old engine.

Eh, I wouldn't break out the champagne and fireworks just yet, god knows what they replaced it with. Yes, it looks impressive in the screenshots, but then so did Oblivion at the time. And even in these few early screenshots we've already spotted a bunch of things that are wrong.

By my rating on Graphics: Looks good enough to play.

The gameplay and the atmosphere is whats going to make it or break it for me...
