That looks like a okay diagram. Not sure what it means by obsession though.

Wow, that's a nice variant. Never heard it before. Thanks.

I've never been a real fan of the media portrayal of nerds/geeks; and seldom do they ever get close (I would consider House to be pretty accurate). I think because we're such a varied culture in society, they have to mock up an "average" stereotype that can describe them all at the same time. They did poorly, I must say, and has been that way for God knows how long.

I'd really hate to even call us a culture.

Nerds are more like a sub-culture or even sub-sub-culture.

I think it's supposed to be similar to otaku or seriously dedicated to some hobby in a more die-hard fashion, like military-obsessed or Japan-obsessed, or something in those veins. Comic book collectors and WOW players are supposedly black holes of this in the media and internet respectively.

Huh.

I don't think that nerds need to be obsessed.

It's like the vampire thing - pop culture has taken something legitimately horrific and gross and turned it into something sparkly and marketable.

I'd really hate to even call us a culture.

These days, geeks seem to be defined primarily by their attachment to the word geek.

I'm an Mac, and I'm a Geek. I'm a PC and I'm a Nerd.

...Wait a second.

Geeks have always been okay, nerds not so much.

Also, around here, this is not going on. Geeks are still geeks.

Well, we also had our start by biting off the heads of chickens. We earned our happy ending. We paid our dues.

College students don't exist to have wild parties, join extreme campus groups, and then barely pass the final.
Actually.  Add drinking and greek clubs and you've got quite a few college students nailed.

Also heard it used as a synonym for "high on crack."
