For some reason I don't feel like she's a good example. Yeah, she's a geek, yeah she's attractive, but I always get the feeling that she's just nerd bait. Same with the protagonist of Dresden Codak.

Maybe it's just my inherent distrust of Whedon's feminist intentions.

Most females in sci-fi and fantasy series are nerd bait and not representative of real women.

In fact, women in most works of fiction or art...

That's a side effect of patriarchal and male-dominated societies. Celtic stories of female warriors are a bit different though ;)

Most movie characters are sexualized, period. Do you think that male action stars are shirtless half the time because the movie's story requires it?

Yeah... pff.  How annoying.

I think the most annoying thing is when nerds declare their nerd-bait a "strong, well-developed female character."  Makes you wonder what they think women are actually like.

Yeah, and because of that I wouldn't consider their attractiveness as a positive break against a stereotype. It's just sexualization to attract viewers. Nothing really admirable about that.
