Don't get me wrong.  It's not that intelligent or even self-aware androids are far-fetched.  It's far-fetched that a standardized model which isn't designed to be emotional and self-aware would by random fluke boot up for the very first time with the capability to experience such a complex range of joy and fear.

I feel like by the time such complicated androids could be constructed in that manner nobody would be surprised over them being artificially intelligent. For that matter artificial intelligence actually seems like it would be required for such an android to be remotely functional.

Apparently, this junk is worse than potassium cyanide. Hydrogen cyanide is irrefutable as the nastiest poison and nitrogenCN is kind of "lolwut yer in mah fruit". I won't share what it is because I don't want some 12 year old going home and getting killed and then his angry parents decide to wage war on the internets on an NBC Special. If you are interested in this toxicology, this isn't the stuff by the way, look up strychnine. I thought that was pretty neat the first time I heard about it. Reminded me of tetanus.

actually, I can remember reading somewhere that a certain element (can't remember which) is actually about 10000 times more potent than hydrogen cyanide.

No way? Huh. Are you sure you aren't getting it confused with the Nivichok Agents (fucking nightmare fuel. Wikipedia that shit.)? HCN is just really common (in the sense that it shows up a lot in the media.) so that's why it's "the nastiest".
