Hey, I guess my question belongs here: What could cause my companions to turn on me? I was a human(demigod if that matters, I'm new to adventure mode and want to get used to controls and not die constantly), and I had 3 human companions. I went to a lair where I was supposed to kill a something-cave crawler, but when I got there, I couldn't find it anywhere, then, as I was about to give up searching and move on, my 3 companions suddenly turned hostile and started attacking me. Actually, only 2 of them attacked the second one just stood there watching. I managed to kill them both, and since the third one was still doing nothing I decided to leave him there. Later, I recruited 3 new followers and continued on my adventure only to be struck down by a night creature. I checked my hero's history in the legend mode and it had this:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I'm curious as to what does that mean and what can cause it.

They was hating you for some reason. Meybe you killd They friends before? Meybe They famili or townfolks? Hate is growing over time, it's not kicking instanty. If you are spending time in game, They emotions towards you is calculated and when They hateness grow enough, They are canceling agreements in violent way... They just atacking you. Sometimes during sleep, sometime short after, sometime just during traveling. Once my bowman shoot me into my back during fight agains zombies, as i checked later, i killd his only doughter by accident (i wanted stole her money, but when you are runing with high speed sometime game is converting it to random atack move, like charge kick into face). This is how third sword of Craftplay died. First arrow just caused high pain, but second one hit into ankle... He lost his speed and corpses just swarmed him.   Traitor was killed short after...

But they all turned on me at the same time, does that mean even if I make one hate me, all of them will? Oh, an is there any way to find what I did that made them hate me? I don't think either of them had any family. All three of them were of unknown parentage and (at least in legends mode) didn't have any spouses/children.

P.S. Hmm, thinking about it, maybe it was the fact that most of the time they were with me I had to eat human meat because I couldn't find any other source of food? That kind of makes sense that they would get fed up with that at some point.

Ok so I like using my enemies for dart practice and I was wondering if there was a way to pull the random assorted knifes out of them to throw them at them again
I think the only time you can do this is when the weapon in question 'has become firmly lodged in the wound' (the announcement is worded something like that.) When this occurs, you may be able to run up and attack → wrestle it out of your target's flesh. Are your thrown items not appearing on the ground? Remember that if you don't see an announcement for the impact, you missed and need to check along the flightpath for your weapon.

I'm pretty sure that'll do it. As long as they weren't human members of a goblin state (an all too common phenomenon, I assure you), they see the consumption of sapient beings as beyond the pale.

You recruted them from the same fraction/site. They was friends (they was talking with each other during adventure), and you was enemy of the two of them (ignoring them when they want talk, refusing conversation, killing folks from They site, killing inteligent creatures, butchering inteligent creatures, eating inteligent creatures, robbing, stealing, sucking blood as vampie, propobly (not confirmed, There is more !!SCIENCE!! needed) animating corpses, causing insurection agains sites belongs to rules who have positive agreements with relatives to them and more stuff). There is system now, when friend is start atacking hated person, other friends are joining to fight if they are brave enough and have any chance to win. This doesn't always work correct, but in this case it will. You can see this during attacks or invastions, some wampires interactions and during insurections, when half of helmet is fighting, each with each. At start using fists, then weapons, some are yelding, but some other is making his atack, so conflict is advancig to no quarter, and there are everyone butchering everyone with knifes and other stuff. Violence scale is terryfing.

Oh, and remember, if you are killing gobos who robbed courple persons, you are still murderer. They just robbed someone, you killd them. During ambushes, when They yield you should stop fighting with them, and leave they alone to flee away, or your reputation will go down. This is less game, more simulation now (pretty bugy, because it's in progress of developing). Humans and dwarves doesn't like violence and killing, sometimes just should just talk or beat somebody a little, without causing fatal injures. In other case, just allow goblins to start robbing you, when they order you to yield, you refuse and then beat them a little. Even if some of them will flee, everyone will be glad because you protected village, and less people will be angry, because somebody died...

Use common sense, if Ana stole your wallet with all your moneys, you still doesn't have right to kill Ana. Right? This game works prettyt well if it's dealing with people, who are acting with common sense, like people, not like possesed deamons. Did you think why your character have tears in eyes? He still feel everything around, but he is possesed by !YOU! player, he doesn't want kill these people for your fun, but you are controling his body and doesn't care about your character feelings.

By any chances, before your companions turned hostile and killed you, did you hit (not need to kill) an animal somewhere in a town/hamlet (not necessarly where other people live, but inside the town/hamlet area) ?

There was a bug in DF2012/previous versions, and i believe i had it in one of the early 40.x version in which hitting an animal (tamed i think) that is in town/inside town zone, turn everyone hostile and make them wanting to kill you.

Not sure if that bug is still in current 40.13 version, as i have not tried again, but it could explain the sudden lethal hostility of your companions

Your companions are somehow restricted to some level of hate, when they hate you enough to cause non-lethal combat, they are not atacking, only if you reach lethal border.

Has anybody encountered goblins who go No Quarter status and flee from you when in an abandoned town?

That behavior makes logical sense when attacking a dark pits or dark tower, but this is an abandoned town, my weapons are sheathed and I haven't even attacked anybody. It's possible it's because of civ relationships, but, I dunno, I'm still confused by it.

I might just go and put it in the 'morale is screwy across all modes' report, but I'm not even sure where exactly I should put it.

Here's the save:
http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=9859

I would love to be able to use DFhack to find out why they are hostile for no apparent reason.

Have your character killed many things in that world ? it could be some effect of "fame" you may gained from the killing.

Aside from a troll recruit that I killed, I've only killed a bunch of bandits in a camp and some goblin criminals or bandits in a hamlet or two that were hostile to me. It's also a really new adventurer.

I made a copy of the save and checked legends, and the only things it shows me as having reputation for are my civ and the home government.

Look at them closly, They are invaders or wildlings. First one, are masters, chiefs, leaders and other stuff, trained and i am advicing avoid them without good stuff. My diplomant lost his escort, because some mad reptile woman was fighting with humanoid with blind cave head, and then start shoting to us using his blowgun... It devastated humans in iron! But one of my protectors wounded mad reptile woman into hearth by his pike, before he bleed to death because wounds...

Other funny thing, how can i push things near me like these goblins?

Wish I knew how to push things near me, because you have to otherwise move into the tile that the victim is on. Jumping onto the tile works at least since the victim will dodge out of the way.

Also, all of the goblins so far running away have been civillians, and what do you mean by wildlings? That town is kind of wierd anyway because theres some lag going on when you do sleep/wait.

I think a more effective solution would be to add [CANOPENDOORS] for dragons.  Depending on how you want to play you may also wish to add [CAN_SPEAK] and [CAN_LEARN] or [INTELLIGENT].  Assuming you want to be able to eat, you should also add [GRASP] to the dragon's hands.  I think this is relatively straightforward (just change the line "[BODY:QUADRUPED_NECK:TAIL:2EYES:..." to "
[BODY:QUADRUPED_NECK_FRONT_GRASP:TAIL:2EYES:...]), but if not I can post an example of dragon raws modded to add in grasp.  You will probably also want to carry around some sort of cutting weapon (i.e. your starting dagger) so that you are able to butcher corpses.

If you plan to play fort mode with the same raws you may want to make dragons with grasp a separate creature, so that dragons that visit your fort aren't carrying weapons and opening doors.

If you are having trouble figuring all this out, I have done it in the past and can dig out and post the raws I used.  I believe I made my dragon adventurers able to fly as well, just cuz.  One downer - things burn REALLY slowly on adventurer time scales (it takes a large fraction of a day for fires to spread one tile) but anything you set fire to directly should burn pretty nicely.  So long as it doesn't have a shield anyway...

Breathe your fire onto doors courple times, temperature should rise and burn down a door (but not walls).

That won't work on closed doors.
