I accidentally clicked through my objective, which was to escort a civilian ship off the enemy side of the map. I believed that the main difficulty would be killing the enemies while protecting the civilian ship. So I had my combat mech fly off in front to draw fire while the civilian ship ran towards
our map edge.
This turned out to be a mistake, as the combat mech has no shields of its own and mediocre flak. It was ripped apart, leaving only the support mech and the Sunrider against a fleet of six mechs and two cruisers. Deciding to end the fight quickly, I fired both the Sunrider's nuclear missiles (one of which was shot down despite being a 100% shot), and then obliterated an enemy mech and cruiser with the vanguard cannon. As we finished tried to finish off the remaining mechs two more cruisers and a missile frigate warped in. With support mech spending all its actions to repair the Sunrider, all I could do was take out one mech per turn. The cruisers got into firing range with their kinetic cannons while two durable enemy bombers moved within close range. I blew my remaining command points spamming the "repair drone" order and took out the bombers with my own cannons, which is decidedly not what they are designed for.
Then six enemy cruisers warped in.
