Well, we haven't scouted the area, seen any enemies, picked a leader, made a plan or even moved forward in time. I'll reserve judgement on what I'll be working on until some of those are concluded. Plus, I have a wide variety of skills.

Also, doesn't the guide say that the minimum time on a particular Action is 6 hours? That's why I picked 6 for Survival, but Sam picked 3...
Sorry is that not clear. By 6 hours i mean a player can say...

3 Hours eating
3 Hours working
18 hours sleeping/slacking off...

Arkon's schedule for today:

3 Hours of Survival - Breakfast, Lunch (in the wilderness) and Supper.

7 Hours of Work: Surveying the land (scouting) in a professional, soldierly manner
- 6 Hours of Lesser Work: Throwing practice during the night, while patrolling

8 Hours of Revival - Sleeping around dusk and around dawn

My colour-coded day:
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Compared to the average other:
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Just to make sure we have a nighttime patrol while most dwarves are sleeping. If any other dwarf would like to rise an hour or two early and have breakfast alone, we can ensure there are no hours when we're totally vulnerable.

Note: as standard, when Arkon ventures out he wears his winter clothing, carries with him his axe and shield, and in his backpack he keeps 3 bandages, his personal basics, his climbing gear, his lantern with 2 candles and 4 days of water and hardtack.

Apparently having a redundant creature entry causes the game to say, "Oh, look, it's crazy world now. Nothing makes sense! Alligators live in houses!"

2 hours of survival (You people need an hour each for meals? Bah, I say.)
8 hours revival
14 hours gathering wild plants

The caravan had finally arrived. His eyes gleamed as he looked around him: There was plenty of land of his own. The *cough* carefully regulated irrigation and farming systems of the Mountainhomes, with nobles mandating every crop exactly, had disinterested him. Yet his father was a farmer, as was his mother, and their parents before them. He was finally out on his own, so to speak, and the responsibility of feeding a new fortress was his and his alone. He grinned as he got to work on trying to identify edible surface plants, nothing like a challenge to get the day started right.

Is it possible to get seeds from what we're cooking?

Sorry is that not clear. By 6 hours i mean a player can say...

3 Hours eating

Huh? Do you mean that we've got four blocks of 6 hours each in a day, and major work takes 6 hour blocks?

I initially thought it meant that we have to spent at least 6 hours a day not sleeping, but I'm not sure.

I think that's the one.

Let's pitch the group tent, get inside, crack open a celebratory drink and figure out what to do next.

Etur's Schelude:
4 Hours of Survival - Breakfast, Lunch, Supper, Booze.
12 Hours of Work - Ten hours of normal work, two hours of plant gathering while on patrol.
8 Hours of Revival - Going to bed and waking up three hours earlier than others. Takes night shift after Arkon.
Graphical view:
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

"I suggest we burrow in as soon as possible. It's easier to defend underground than aboveground, what with all those fancy traps people set up in progressive forts."

"Per'aps we can build a safe stairway on the cliff's edge and put the entrance there; more dangerous to get in or out, but it'll keep us concealed for longer and it'll be much easier to defend if the horde can only march on one at a time an' we can jus' push 'em off a cliff!"

"Its a good idea to keep a low profile. But why is nobody digging. or cutting for that matter." Feh!

Work: Takes a stone from the riverbank and sets up a carpenters workshop, Takes a rock from the riverbank and sets up a mechanics workshop, make a animal trap out of some rope and put it out someplace.

Survival 1hour: scarf down my 3 meals throughout the day

Recovery 7hours: sleep early and wake up early to keep an eye out on things.

Work again:use my tools to make a wooden door for our fortress entrance (there is wood by now hopefully)

(do i still only get 4 minor actions if i spend many hours devoted to work?)

Etur stumbled, a familiar feeling of an untold joke tearing at his lungs from the inside grew stronger and stronger. He had no other choice but to fulfill this primal craving.
"Let's burrow some space from the Earth. Burrow, dig it?"

On the surface: dig one stairway downwards right on the edge of the cliff. Z -1: up\down staircase. Z -2: dig as on the scheme below.
 WWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
 WWWWWWWWW.....W
 WWWWWWW.W.....W

 WWWWWWW.W.....W

W being wall, < being upwards staircase, . being dug-out space.

Cliffs so high you can't see the bottom?

YES.

I strongly support building a rickety staircase down and burrowing straight into the cliff face. A cliff face fortress would be SO epic, and if there's no normal way down it'd be much, much better. I'll even chop the wood for it.

So:

4 Hours Survival (Hour each meal, hour drinking)
6 Hours Revival (Sleep)
14 Hours Woodcutting

We also really need to get that tent set up. I'd do it but we might want wood and I'm the only one decent at getting it.

Even better, we have a rickety staircase that leads to a platform under an opening that can only be reached by a rope ladder (so we can roll it up and drop it down):
___ _______________
|    /
|    \
|    /      O
|    \      =
|    /      =
|    \___=

Later in the fortress' life, we can plan to dig a grand stone staircase into the face of the cliff.

Actually, on second thoughts, this'll make it really hard to bring stuff in or out. We should dig down into our fortress from above, make a pulley system to lower all our kit in, and then seal shut the hole, so that the cliff-face is the only way in.

Congratulations on Starting your first turn, I will take this moment to restate some things that seem to be unclear.

With the 6-24 Hours, it is as Samthere said.
I initially thought it meant that we have to spent at least 6 hours a day not sleeping, but I'm not sure.
This means that a Dwarf will automatically wake up and will require instructions even if the Player wishes them to sleep the whole day (sleep 24 hours). Bedrid Dwarves are the most common dwarves to use only 6 hours awake, during this time they would remain in bed but would be awake to eat drink and to communicate or do very simple jobs (a bedrid dwarf Could for example do some paper work).

Also this

Is epic, anyone that posts this gives me a better method to working out how your day went and where dice is rolled, I won't put this on anyone's posts nor will I force anyone to use it, as I wasn't anyway, but this helps somewhat...

-----

Also note that stating Normal work without explaining what that Work IS, is not an actual action, neither is setting TIME to your jobs.

-----

The example of Minor Jobs being 4 in total is to say that a dwarf could work on around 4 different things if time allowed, a Major job would be something that consumes not only the most time but doesn't really allow the dwarf to pay attention to something else...

Lets use Hastur's Post as an example.

Work: Takes a stone from the riverbank and sets up a carpenters workshop, Takes a rock from the riverbank and sets up a mechanics workshop, make a animal trap out of some rope and put it out someplace.

This here is Minor jobs being done, first is the action of searching for two boulders that would be used as workshops from the river bank, note that there may be a chance of failing this (the reason being is that a Dwarf needs ample space on the boulder to work, and finding a good sized boulder is slim on the surface). For example, Putting 2 Hours of search and collection of this boulders (Finding them and then dragging them back to the Wagon, unless Hastur wants to state that he builds it near the bank) MIGHT find him a boulder or two for a Workshop. If he spent 3 hours the chance of finding a boulder is increased and so on.

Making a Snare (animal trap) is such a minor task with the use of rope as the only imput, spending only an hour or so on this has a high chance of compleating it. But due to the limited time, he would only produce One in total no matter how well he rolled. If he said he was going to spend 8 hours producing Snares the job would be now counted as a Major job and thus he has a higher chance of producing a larger pile of Snares. Spending more time on a task lifts it to different stages, anything could be a  Minor Task or a Major Task. Even mining could be a minor task by spending a few hours on it, though not much would be done...
