EDIT:  I never really thought about it.  Because I never consitered someone bringing a service animal or something on a plane, but they keep pets in the luggage compartment?  Isn't that un-pressurized?
EDIT2:  Of COURSE it's Florida.  Though supposedly it was a military flight out of Guantanamo bay.  Doubt there were animals aboard in that case.   Rip all the cuban anoles that were run over on the plane's way to the river.  I save one from it's own stupidity, probably a few more die by planecrash.

Part of the reason to never bring pets on a flight if you can't get them in the cabin. Another bit is them being crushed under badly stacked luggage, left to die of suffocating/dehydration during delays and mixups, &c.

And Florida isn't exceptional. They're just basically the only state that allows early and more complete release of a lot of types of information about crimes and related incidents to the media, so you hear about more of the weird shit in greater detail.

From what I understand the error that causes the planes to crash is most likely to happen during takeoff.  At least one of the two very lethal crashes happened when a plane automatically pitched forward during takeoff.
