Depends on context, Neo. From my viewpoint this has no difference whatsoever to people in general--the people maybe mentioned are politically energized by the communications present there (like the internet, and American[?] stuff putting political labels on behavior or such)
But in a way, I do see a point there--there's a lot more mention of political labels recently, although moreso online via text than in conversation.
It was common before too though.
