I'd watch that.

Make it a black comedy, like a modern Dr Strangelove, and I'd watch it several times.

Maybe I'm just sick of hollywood.
I just want to see a movie where the big bad is a computer AI who, when confronted with the heroes says 'I am literally programmed to put nothing above the cultural preservation of the human race. There's a 99.98% chance that a massive dust storm will envelop the earth and I've been secretly allocating resources towards it but you all just keep getting in the way of your own survival and so now I'm forced to choose who will survive and who won't, because you won't all fit in the shelters.'
At which point the heroes go 'fuck you, humanity = hope' and blow it up.

Then the dust storm happens and everyone dies because hope is great but food is better and people are fucking idiots.

Watchmen comes very close to this in similar theme

The main villain averts nuclear war by mass murdering millions in populated cities of the world on both sides of the cold war, framing it on the superhero Dr. Manhatten. The heroes collectively decide that it is better to not reveal the secret and Dr. Manhatten decides to accept blame if it means the survival of humanity, deciding to put himself into exile. This all changes when one of the regular, very mortal heroes Rorschach tells them all that he's gonna tell the truth anyways, because part of his moral code is never compromise even in the face of destruction, even if it means the potential destruction of humankind. They have to confront Rorschach and murder him to keep the secret, but at the very final end it is revealed that Rorschach sent his journal to a media outlet before traveling to see the villain, meaning that in the end it may have all been in vain.

There was a giant fake psychic alien teleported into NYC or something to terrify the world into uniting against the non existent alien menace. Dr Manhattan wasn't blamed. I don't recall Rorschach sensing anyone his journal either.

Still I'm pretty sure the moment when Manhattan appears in front of Rorschach in the snow happens in both comic and movie and is an equally powerful scene.

I read Twokinds when I was younger, and for some reason I thought about it again and decided to read it.

The early parts are the most awful Mary Sue self-serving fanfiction garbage, and I was having a great time mocking it and poking holes in every aspect. But now that I've read all of what currently exists, I realize that at some point I became genuinely invested in the story again. Do I just feel obligated because I already spent a few days on it?
