VM is Virtual Machine, I belive.
If neko.exe is what I think it could be, it's just harmless but fucking annoying desktop shit that follows your mouse or something. Quite popular long time ago, I belive.

I have memories of banzai buddy, too. I can't speak of them without violating the forum ToS and seeing reality tint red at the edges, but they're there. One of my earlier experiences in having to dig out a piece of software with a jackhammer.

Iirc, my father actually forbid me from playing runescape when I was little because I clicked on the ads while waiting for the game to load and wound up downloading malware or spyware without realizing it. Or something like that.

Then later they found the porn sites me and my brother (we shared a computer, there was only two in the house) had found because while we wiped the history we didn't clear the cookies. And of course wound up with malware causing problems that we needed his help to fix, which prompted him to look. That was bad.

I keep finding myself drawn to wanting to play skyrim again, since I never sat down and played it properly modded and set up despite actually quite enjoying the game even in it's vanilla state...

But I always get so impatient with the modding and I'm pretty sure that's why I keep ending up with super unstable installs... Why exactly can't I just get my shit together and install it right ONCE so I don't have to keep redoing it?

The same for Oblivion for me, I filled at least 2 DVDs with mods for a time when I did not have internet, and a few I may have compressed even more to save space. Had to nuke my Oblivion install, it was taking over 100GB on a 360GB hard drive.
