Like apparently this is deductive reasoning:
    All men are mortal.
    Socrates is a man.
    Therefore, Socrates is mortal.

Well... math is universal.
I haven't studied logic recently, but the basics seem pretty universal too (mathematics)

I think we can expect advanced alien races to be able to follow that logic, and be aware of prime numbers.
[citation needed]
humans can't just invent a thing in their heads and call it "universal"

Humans didn't invent prime numbers, or the Fibonnaci sequence.  They're existing phenomena.  Various forms of animal and plant life have been using the fibonacci sequence long before we existed or named it.

As for logic, it doesn't matter how they name it, an alien should be capable of seeing those two assumptions and drawing the conclusion.  And that's deductive reasoning (:

An alien should probably be able to identify the fallacy there :P
Or possibly be very confused about ape genders and English pronouns.

Hmm.

I wouldn't say The Last Angel is bleak.  Dark, yes.  But not bleak.

"When Plato gave Socrates' definition of man as "featherless bipeds" and was much praised for the definition, Diogenes plucked a chicken and brought it into Plato's Academy, saying, "Behold! I've brought you a man." After this incident, "with broad flat nails" was added to Plato's definition."

I added some diagnostic command line output to figure out why an iterator wasn't counting up and it started writing smiley faces.

Math isn't universal. As in, math exists because we defined the ground rule. Given the same ground rule, math is universal.

But again, I might be orating via my posterior, because I have no idea how one would prove that 1+1=2, and maybe Pure Math actually manages to be universal.

Perhaps math is universal, but arithmetics isn't, would be a more accurate statement.

I've had that happen. In my case it was something to do with char data types and ASCII values. Don't remember exactly why it happened in my program I was writing at the time or what I did to fix it.

It sounds like an error with the data you're displaying as output.
