Dialect.

Thanks!

"Ebonics" is a dialect. Though we are starting to take quite a few loan words from it.

"stupid fucking SJWs trying to accept ebonics as correct english"

racist bullshit like that
Is that racist? It's very evidently not the Queen's English (or whatever the American equivalent is).

Technically not racist.

As "Ebonics" (once again, not the correct terminology) is a uhhh... whats that word... I cannot remember the term but basically an "Offshoot of a language" that is considered proper within itself, yet still isn't English.

It would be like saying Mandarin is proper Cantonese.

No, it's like saying that American English is proper English. Which it is. American English is a dialect of English. It's the same language. AAVE (which racists and/or ignorant people like to call "ebonics") is also a dialect.

Of course people mean "American English" when they mean "English"

Though even if they didn't... it wouldn't matter within the context of the conversation.

Not sure if this is necessarily correct. AAVE might be more academically accepted, but as far as I can tell the popular usage of "Ebonics" in the first place comes from its use in the '90s Oakland Ebonics controversy. Granted, IIRC, the pro-AAVE side in that debate also claimed black people were genetically predisposed to speak "Ebonics" and that it was a different language from English.

I think what you mean with an independent language is a creole, but I'd agree with the others here, dialect is more accurate.

the people who started doing and continue doing that are mostly just trying to be racist fuckwads while trying to paint their opposition as fringe

Nope, totally common to think the SJW trend is stupid without being a "racist fuckwad". I'd rather this not boil down to a semantic argument over that qualifier "mostly" in there, so to go further, my resentment of SJWs comes from my perception of their aggressiveness, superficiality, and flawed motivations. It seems likely to me that most are attracted to it either in interest of the image they're projecting or their opinion of themselves, often missing the point of whatever they're arguing for. I think it's very common to think SJWs are ridiculous and the ironic name appropriate independent of any given issue, which is why the label has stuck.

I think we have very different definitions of proper English. I'd say it's what you hear on the BBC news. That makes regional dialects English, but not Proper English™.

Putnam's argument:
"Language is used for communication. If your idea is adequately conveyed, then the language is correct."

Other people's argument:
"Language follows precedent. If your speech/writing/whatever doesn't follow that precedent, then it is incorrect (unless the variant enters common usage)."

Ahh the "Is it in the dictionary?" argument.

We aren't. We are on a completely different topic.

Well as long as no one drops in and digs it up.

I have been buttoning the fly on these trousers wrong ever since I bought them.
How could I have made an oversight like that?

Couldn't we just like... not have conversations on the internet and just spout things at people?

Like "I like pie"
"I like pizza"

Wouldn't that be a whole lot better then this back and forth where we get to know one another and these topics?
