Oh god Cutco and their multilevel marketing.

Some kid tried to sell a set to our family and we never called him back, so now as a recurring joke, we say that the cutco kid is out there.....waiting to get his knifey revenge
I had my time as a Cutco salesman. I sold exactly 3 things, a cutting board, a fruit knife and a peeler. After that I kept the sample knives. They're pretty sweet.

...Wolfenstein: New Order...   ...40.6 gigs...
There is a game which requires 40.6 gigs of static memory.

Whelp, I guess memory optimizations are obsolete now.

A major label game under 10 gigs seems a rarity these days.

One of my bosses mistook adventure mode for weather tracking radar.
My father is incapable of fathoming how I play DF, mostly due to the graphics. Then again, he doesn't look hard enough, as he once mistook Cataclysm, which I play with a tileset, for DF.

People seem to have forgotten the point of optimization. :/

Why do these guys keep moving the goalposts forward? Can't keep up with the increasing technological curve.

If we hit a limit in space or something than people will have to start getting creative in their optimisation. It's like... look at "Conker's Bad Fur Day" and the fact it has near full voice acting on a cartridge that could hold 64mb.

I somewhat enjoy optimization. Programs that work as efficiently as possible are very satisfying.

It's the red queen/inflation theory of commercial hard-drives. You can get 2terabytes of space but because such HDD sizes are becoming the norm, creators feel able to take up more room in your hard-drive. Therefore it needs to get bigger and bigger just to stay the "same" size (relative to number of modern games it can store) and each gigabyte is not "worth" as much as they were ten years ago.

Soon the only factor in favour of game -size limits and optimization will be bandwidth caps and download speeds.

Hard drive capacity will keep expanding until it is able to contain Dwarf Fortress 1.0.
Conversely, Dwarf Fortress will keep expanding until it is able to fill any available hard drive.

Eventually there will be a glorious, terrifying convergence and all will be beards and booze and horrifying, hilarious deaths.

Eventually, DF will leak into the internet and begin to rewrite files to accommodate DF.

I've realized with my latest cold (which on its own would be for the rage thread) has given me the most powerful sneezes I can ever recall. It feels like a shotgun blasting out of my nose. Given a low-friction surface, I could scoot around from the recoil.

Okay, the first two sentences are true. The last one probably isn't.

Searching for my username leads to its source.
Discworld, The Colour of Magic, the words that one of the female wizards of the flying disc that is going to take them to Krull says, IIRC. And no, I didn't google that :v
*polite applause*
It's a pretty name, if you ask me.

I think I mostly remembered that because when I was reading The Colour of Magic and read that part my mind went "Oh hey, that's the name of a bay12er!" :P
