I'm writing an essay about Ovid, and one of my sources is entitled Ovid in Exile, written by a Romanian dude with a grant from the Romanian Ministry of Culture and published by the Center for Romanian Studies, advocating the pet theory that Ovid was the First Romanian Poet. If your Roman history is spotty, Augustus exiled Ovid to the Black Sea coast of Romania in 8 AD (before there was any such thing as Romania) for writing scandalous poetry; Ovid hated the place with a passion and had exactly zero influence on Romanian culture.

Gotta love Balkan nationalism.
