mostly because in the first gen they didn't have gender for pokemon so that was their only option for dimorphism.

There's also Miltank and Tauros. Though those two are from different generations.

Volbeat and Illumise are sort of counterparts. They're generally in separate games.

You sure? Bulbapedia didn't say anything about it being added, and I'm pretty sure it didn't originally exist.

Maybe it got added in Blue/English Red & Blue? I don't think so, but that's the only possibility I can think of.

Pokemon in RBY didn't have gender, but they got given gender if you traded them up to GSC. Basically gender and shinyness were determined by the stats of the pokemon (can't remember exactly how) in GSC and not separate values attached to the pokemon, to allow for that cross-trading. Except, of course, for fixed gender pokemon (Nidoran♂, Nidoran♀ and their evolutions).

So my WTF is as follows: Just realised The Simpsons still hasn't been cancelled. In fact, apparently it's going to have a Season 26. It's been in a sharp decline in quality for over 15 years now...Who is still watching the new episodes and can they please stop?

I don't generally watch The Simpsons, but when I do I sometimes find it entertaining.

Anyway, even if it is declining (which I have no opinion on, due to the fact that I mostly watch reruns when I do occasionally watch it) people will still watch it out of habit.

It's still fun occasionally, but a lot of the jokes are constantly recycled between episodes.

Anyway, any new episode is made at a net loss, apparently, so it won't last long.

Pretty sure that they were talking about cases where there are different evolution lines for different genders.

They actually picked up a bit. Not as good as the first ten seasons, but better than some of the in-betweens...
