Not familiar with the game, but looking at it, I don't see the problem with it. I can see why some people might prefer the other art (although, since I generally despise abstract bullshit, that art would make me NOT want to buy the game), but the US art is just a girl with three other people in the background. She's fairly sensibly dressed, and there's no "accentuation" on the breasts at all. Does she not appear in the game or something?

The normal cover is not abstract, it's a picture of an origami crane in the rain, both of which are recurring and strong themes in the game. The US box art makes the crane really lacking in detail, and then shrinks it down so they can fit in pictures of characters. And in general it just looks washed out, and the visual effects look like they've been cheaply mashed together, no real sense of continuity between the characters, the crane, and the water.

To be fair (no, not really), I think it was a thinly veiled gift for the older employees. A coworker mentioned that taxes aren't taken out of something like this. No one enforces that they're for the children. They say it is, but the majority of the time it's going to the parents who are then free to resell it or whatever. I'm sure complaints about ageism would result in laughter and a stern explanation that the gifts were for children, not parents.

I don't know if my coworkers got performance raises as well (and it's apparently rude to ask), but I got a pretty good one a few days before said gifts were given out. I guess I can't complain too loudly. I came out ahead in the matter as my "bonus" will recur annually.

There is a distinct difference in the feelings involved with receiving a bonus and receiving a raise, however. Raises are at least somewhat expected if you do good work. Bonuses are just that - something nice that you receive when momentary expenditures increase (such as, you know, a winter celebration of your choice).

Everyone should get cost-of-living raises each year of about 2% to keep up with inflation (again, depending on your country you might see a different change) plus whatever the local change in cost of living is. This is easy to figure out if you grab the right census data. It's probably 2-5% depending on your region. And that's what you need at minimum each year just so you're not being paid less.

You also have an extra year of experience, doing the exact job the company needs done with the company's systems. That should result in a raise because you are of more value to the company now.

Then you should get a bonus if your performance was great. Should there be a penalty if your performance was poor? I've never really heard of that - if your performance is that bad they should just find a new employee.

Then there is a Christmas bonus which is of course not a guarantee but it's a nice gift from the company - in years past this would be expected by the employees. Along with healthcare and pension.

Important not to get these conflated. Like when a kid's birthday is in December or January and his cheap relatives say "this is your birthday and Christmas present".

Likely a bit late at this point, but if it's a friend, honesty is probably the best policy.

On the other hand, that is most definitely one of those stereotypical "no-good-answer" questions people talk about. Face, you know your friend better than us, so you know whether the appropriate response is to answer honestly (if they're not indulging in such shenanigans) or screech loudly, spin three times in place, and run screaming out of the building (the appropriate response if they are, situation allowing).
