Yeah, I quite like the emotion threads. Interesting chatter.
For varying (sometimes by the post) definitions of interesting.
Jesus, WHY DOES EVERYTHING INTERESTING HAPPEN WHEN I AM OUT!?!
I spend limitless times on the forums waiting for something particularly stupid to occur, and when it does, I'm not even there to enjoy it!
I'm glad you think I'm stupid???
Unless you classify yourself as a thing, I don't think he does.
First time in a while I've seen someone be vocally (ah, textually, I suppose) adverse to the routine here, as opposed to either fitting right in or slipping silently into that good night. There's my WTF of the evening, I suppose.
That people who don't automatically carry the status quo is a 'what the fuck' moment to you is a pretty what the fuck moment to me, I guess. If all you want posting in threads is people that just go with the hivemind and post non-challenging things you agree with, then what's the point of posting? If all the content has the same voice, then it doesn't matter how many people are saying it, it's all the same pointless nonsense. I know some forums have problems with there being a new thread for any little thought being posted, but I'd rather there be a million threads for posting content to be discussed than a half-dozen megathreads where it seems to be the normal to not actually discussing any single thing in particular. You've just shifted the problem from 'a million pointless threads' to 'a million pointless posts'.
But whatever I guess. Every good forum needs a discussion on what stuff like this every now and then.
Uh. I don't really see where this came from. I don't see much of a 'hivemind' in agreeing to make some effort to keep the various nonsensical things confined to a few areas. We make threads for things that generate enough (and serious enough) discussion to need a thread; politics, animus, programming, more politics, and bits of news/recent events/discussions that have some meat to them. I don't really see how four or five threads composed largely of randomness are worse than a board full of random pointless threads; this way, actual discussions aren't buried under dozens of fast-burning threads. Seeking argument for the sake of argument isn't a good thing, and it sort of pisses me off when people act as if it is. Arguing is fun, but I for one don't want to have it pervade every damned thread. You do, of course, realize that meaningful interaction is possible without conflict, no?
As much as I dislike the condescending smugness behind the term 'shitposting', I still agree that it's for the best to have areas for it rather than spreading it into serious debates.
Actually, this is rather strongly reminding me of certain people a short while ago, with the whole "Calling us on being dicks" = "OMG HUGBOX" thing.
