Screw that guy. Many of the animals could have died if security hadn't noticed him. Toss him in jail.

I used to scan packages and stuff them in giant shipping cans for Fedex.  I saw live animals all the time.  I have no idea how any of them ever survived.  I really don't know if any did.  I saw fish, frogs, chicks, all kinds of insects, and heard of plenty of others going through the system.  They were just stuffed in boxes and put on the conveyor belts like normal freight.  The frogs were the worst.  They were stuffed so tightly together in this little perforated box about the size of a paperback novel that they could barely move, and the cardboard was flimsy and not reinforced in any way.  I snatched them as they hit the bottom of the chute, where just a couple seconds later they would have been squished in an explosion of blood by the next few boxes that were really dense and heavy.  I was horrified.  I had a co-worker friend (a former exotic vet tech) who got in trouble for trying to save a box of chicks from freezing to death.
