Probably not actually suited for feeding to cats. Sounds like you bought overpriced oatmeal.

If it is really vegetarian, then it certainly isn't suitable for feeding cats.

If it had such a wrong texture, not just taste, then I suspect it was designed by vegetarian zealots, or people trying to sabotage vegetarians. Reasonable people would at least try to get the texture right.

My guess on how to make fake tuna would be some soy paste-edible paper laminate, shaped then bake hardened, and put into oil.
But then, I would actually test whether it resembles tuna before trying to sell it as "vegetarian tuna".

Vegan "versions" of things which simply aren't vegan don't tend to be very tasty. Vegan food can be really good but it's gotta be based on stuff that's actually vegan, right? So there's going to be things you can't really make that way and have it be acceptable.

I mean... Tuna out of the can with absolutely nothing added to it is not exactly what I'd call a vibrant flavor fiesta. "Bland" seems pretty on-point.

This is the way.

Wait, spiting the earth or the potato masala?

Though I guess it's a false dichotomy. We can do both!

Eat your Potato Masala out of a non-reusable plastic disposable bowl, with disposable plasticware. That'll show that Mother Earth!

I heard someone talking about a "Stanley cup" the other day, and just learned this isn't a hockey trophy but is a $45 drinking vessel.

WTF is wrong with people spending that much money on a cup!? (And I thought Yeti was bad enough, at like $25...)

It's been going on a while. Someone stole my coworker's Stanley a year ago. I went and bought her a not-Stanley replacement as a gesture of friendship....and someone bought her another Stanley.

There's nothing remarkable about them other than the brand name's recognition. They're nice, don't get wrong. But spending $45 to drink room temperature water from a heavily insulated thermos is fuckin' stupid.

I paid like 50$ for a thermos, once. Still have it, but.

It's also a 40oz massive MF who keeps things insanely on-temp for entire days. So no regrets, but I can't imagine just buying A Cup for that much dosh.

Great Order

I've been finding a good number of actually-good meat replacements.

Vivera's got some good stuff. Plant steaks don't taste like steak but they've got that satisfaction you get from meat down to pat, and their Greek kebab is amazing. Moving Mountains meanwhile has a hotdog that has a taste and texture just like the real thing. Not that difficult when the real thing's made out of ground up pig anus and rat, but still.

My big issue is a lot of vegan/vegetarian foods are lacking a solid source of protein that makes it sit in my stomach. I can devour a vegetable curry, but I'll be hungry an hour later. I gather it might be stomach acid issues, apparently things like GERD (Which I'm pretty sure I have) makes it so that fibre is broken down fast and doesn't sit in your stomach.
