Community Game - Swordviper
« on: October 13, 2010, 09:46:27 am »

This will be a succession game, depending on how many people are interested in playing it might be rotational but a normal succession is fine, with old players being allowed to come back in. This will be the first time I run a succession game, so if you have any particular requests let me know (for Dorfing).

The map we'll be using has had some files modded, there were no aquifers during worldgen (which doesn't matter) but I had clay and sand swapped in the raws in order to turn the clay into sand. I believe this requires the changed inorganic_stone file to keep, but I'm unsure.

The mountain biome is more or less the same, except for the layers of course.

If you have a suggestion for a particular civilization to pick, feel free to say so. Otherwise I'll just pick at random. This site also has humans, elf, and goblins as neighbors, although we're not at war with any of them (yet).

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Hopefully this won't be too a bumpy ride, I'll do my best to learn fast on how to manage this whole succession thing!

The List:
1. krisslanza
2. Flyingdwarf (Brewer/Carpenter)
3. hermano (Blacksmith)
4. uber pye (Mechanic)
5. lolghurt (?)
6. EvilTwin (Miner)
7. metime00 (?)

Overseers:
1. krisslanza
2. Flyingdwarf
3. uber pye
4. lolghurt
5. EvilTwin < Current
6. metime00
7. Salacavalini
8. Aravin

There are a few pregenerated worlds with a river and a volcano next to each other in the cookbook thread:

And here's one with a brook and a flat volcano next to each other, since you say you don't like high cliffs.

Oh my, both are quite nice. I'll need to take a peek in both... I used the DFPerfect World thing and managed to make a not too bad world, though it again has the usual 'problem' of the Dorfs deciding to park the wagon on top of sheer cliffs, but the land smooths out eventually.

I'm not sure which to pick really... not to mention, if I start playing with one and no one has come forward or anything... well, I guess I could turn it into a solo thing and if people want, can rotate in or something.

I do a few things with my freetime. Either LOTRO, writing, or Dorfs. Usually Dorfs lately.

EDIT:
I am in favor of the one with the, well... spoiler. I've always been looking for one of those and have never found one, even on a Pocket-sized world.

Hi there, If this is going to be the standard succession game, Ill join in, and make a dwarf for me as a Brewer/Carpenter...I prefer a dwarf that has a braided beard, anything else doesn't matter to me...and if there isn't a dwarf with a braided beard, then anything else will do...

And no mods right?

The only mods in effect is there was no aquifers during worldgen. I also swapped clay and sand in the raws so all the clay on the map is sand instead. Any other mods in effect are stuff on my side right now - graphic packs and laptop keybindings, stuff like that.

I've used one of the pre-generated worlds provided and found the right spot for the... fun. I'm unsure if I should expand the embark to be slightly taller to give more hills to work with or not. The 4x4 is probably fine really.

I'd be glad to do a standard succession game (I will probably end up running up my own version when it isn't my turn perhaps but, I'm sure that isn't uncommon). Though right now I'm lacking in people that are interested really. I noticed I can rename the thread, so perhaps a formally named thread will help, or perhaps I'm just posting this request when people are tied up in other things.

I'm not sure if the games here are using the game's randomly generated names, or if they are pre-picked.
I personally wanted to put 'dragon' in it somewhere, but that's just me and loving dragons. Though I guess something silly is best, although not completely, utterly silly to the point it makes no sense...

I'll get to throwing up some screenshots of the embark area and the like.

which tileset?

It's probably made from baby bone, with a handle of baby leather. Probably uses the leg bones wound together for the handle, the pelvis for the handle/pick joint, and the pick is the spine.

But that's all in theory, of course. Not like I've made a pick out of my own 5 month old baby before.

I'm using Phoebus's tileset myself. I better start up a list 'ere...
EDIT:
List made in order of people asking. I would like to set out with 2 Miners, but I might make myself Miner/something else. I'll check in after work.

Joining! wanna have a miner or mason/engraver, what ever fits better (are there even starting 7 slots open?)

Also I shall be named Picard if im a mason/engraver and Lebowski if i end up as miner :D

Also also if you have not yet decided on a name for the fortress, how about Igrilstîgil, Meatjaws, founded by Kintun Themor, The Oaken Door of Boiling...

 proper dwarven name :P

If i understand correctly, yes this should work. Worst case scenario, all the sand turns back into clay.
I plan to start tomorrow probably, after work of course.

Miner it is then, since we're lacking in any of those. :P
