1st Granite, 150
Well, I've arrived out in this wilderness on orders from her Queen. Although I'm pretty sure she meant this as a form of punishment for not fulfilling some mandate for glass (I don't even work with the stuff!) I guess I'll make the best of it, it was a much better option then five hammerblows. I can spy not too far from our wagon an open pit of magma, and to our north a calm brook. I imagine north of this brook will be an abundance of farmable land, good for food, while south of the brook will hold stone and ore.

Well, no work got done by just writing in a journal. Best find a spot and get the diggin' started.

6th Granite, 150
My first order of business is to get our supplies and my fellow dwarves underground, while I don't see any hostile wildlife around I'd rather not take my chances. The only wildlife we've seen so far is a herd of elk, perhaps we could use a hunter sometime to take advantage of the natural wildlife in the area at some point in the future.

23rd Granite, 150
Construction is progressing smoothly, although I worry my plans will not be good for long, but I figure a short-term set up will do for now. I've got the food inside and am working on getting a fishery in place so we can use the brook as an easy source of food, in addition I've almost finished our farming plot as well.

17th Slate, 150
I take back what I said about this place seeming to be safe. Off in the western mountains I've seen some giant scorpions roaming about, I can only prey they will leave us alone. Once I finish getting basic facilities set up, I must see to getting us some basic defenses in place.

25th Hematite, 150
I have fashioned some small, basic rooms for us. We can currently house 12 and have plenty of room for further expansion. Work is progressing smoothly on an attempt to use some of the volcano's magma to get some production going as this site is rich in hematite and native copper. However, I haven't yet figured a way to get the magma flowing safely.

27th Hematite, 150
As I predicted, some migrants have arrived. Not too many, our total population is only a meager 10. This will make it easier to manage I suppose.

23rd Galena, 150
The magma cistern is ready, however I am not certain if I can get the magma to flow into it without possibly losing a miner. Considering there are only two of us, myself included, getting the magma to flow could be rather risky. However, autumn is growing near and I've yet to get any sort of crafts constructed yet.

---

Autumn just hit so I'll finish it up in the morning. I'm sorry if my posts are uh, lacking. But there isn't really much of interest going on...

7th Limestone, 150

Success! Leboswki sure can run when magma is coming after him. The design might be simple and crude, but it will work for our purposes.

3rd Sandstone, 150
More migrants have arrived, I have to wonder how they keep hearing about this place. I wasn't under the impression the Queen was going to go chattering about it. We now have 14 dwarves.

14th Timber, 150
The caravan has arrived! The magma has just filled up enough to be usable as well, so we have little to trade but I'm sure I can think of something.

19th Timber, 150
Trading away some of our excess mechanisms seems profitable enough, I've gotten hold of all the wood I could and what little booze they brought with them. They must've drank it all or something... they had brought some cows along, and I had considered trading for them as a possible source of food but the merchants seemed unwilling to part with them. I could have more mechanisms brought up, but judging by the wildlife I've seen around here we should have no problem with food.

26th Timber, 150
A meeting is underway with the liaison from home. While I'm pretty sure I was sent out here to build this fortress, the liaison seems to think Flyingdwarf is the leader here. Well, whatever. I told him that all we really need from home right now is wood (we have some here but not in great amounts, besides more could never hurt us right?) and booze.

3rd Moonstone, 150
Winter has arrived now. For now I've focused our smelting on the copper we have, while I'm aware the hematite will yield more valuable iron (and we have a shortage of neither) I see the copper as a good stepping stone to develop hermano's - our smith - skills. We do not seem to have a shortage of neither ore, when we arrived I also spied a small bit of aluminum in the western mountain, although I'm unsure how much.

13th Moonstone, 150

I have observed that the water in this area freezes during winter, although not all of it.

The meeting has finally ended and the liaison has given us a list of exports she'd like to see. While I have not gone about setting up hunting operations for leather, I don't believe it should be difficult. We have a lot of ore to work with, so that should not be a problem.

19th Moonstone, 150
I lied. The brook has frozen over completely. We have great stockpiles of fish already and the farm can be expanded, so food should not be an issue.

24th Obsidian, 150

Seems we have kobolds in the area. I had not expected this and had merely kept the doors wide-open into the fortress and had little in the way of security. This could be a serious oversight on my part... it even got away, I tried to chase it down but the thing is surprisingly fast.

1st Granite, 150
Spring has arrived. I have decided to stepdown from my overseer position for now and have appointed myself as militia commander. With the kobold's escape I need to focus my time on our defenses and military, there's always the chance the kobolds could become a problem.

Here is a map of the fortress as it stands, minus one floor where I haven't done much work on yet.

- - -

As you can see I uh, forgot to get around to getting stocks taken and all that, heh. It was a pretty slow turn really, although this might be because I didn't want to do too much in case my setup was disliked or something. First time doing a succession game and all that.

I had a third pick made if you need three miners, or to replace my own Dorf if you want to keep her busy on military stuff.

Yay, I love the location, early magma and lots of metals is always nice.
Would the next overseer care to write a bit more about our dwarfs? It's more interesting to have an idea about a little guy when he dies a horrible death instead of 'random dwarf x is killed'. What are their abilities, who is doing what? What gods are they praying to? - At least for the named dwarfs, it would be too much effort for 200 random peasants of course.
Also requesting a screenshot of my dwarfs thoughts and character screen :).

I had thought of doing that, as I should've, but I was a bit lazy and uh... I wasn't sure how people wanted their dorfs written really.
And here you go:

No shortage of surrounding lard, tangled teeth, splayed out ears, incredibly upturned nose, close set eyes, pink skin; he loves natural beauty and is thus frequently depressed.
Poor little horrible ugly dude :3. At least there are nice doors to cheer him up.
What is Limul about? Probably some suicide cult...

Limul is the deity of The Red Boat. Takes the form of a female dwarf and is associated with trade and wealth. The only other worshipper of Limul in the fortress is my own dwarf. Most everyone else worships Lorit the Umbral Crystal, another deity of the Red Boat, also female, and associated with caverns and mountains.

Also lolghurt and Flyingdwarf are lovers.

Second granite

I am Flyingdwarf, I was given that nickname since I am a brewer, and I am usually drunk off my feet, but no matter how much I drink here, its always the same thing, Dwarven wine...I'm sick and tired of it, I swear to make other types of Booze, since this place is lacking in it, Though the metals of this place is plentiful, there is no way to make the gleaming metal of steel as of yet since we have neither coke or charcoal
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
If I am to be taking over this Fortress, I will need to make some changes, especially to the workers quarters, they are not enough to support this years expected arrivals...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Not to mention all this loose rock...I will also be bookmarking each notable place in this fort, for future Commanders, to make it easier to get around, and the Eating area is horrible, most times we have to share a table, I will get right on ordering more tables to be built in order to remedy that....And that ominous lever?
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

OOC:Okay, there is the initial update, to say I HAVE taken over the fort, and discussing what I will do in the future...Also Ill try to do the updates in a fashion that seems like my dwarf is writing them, to be in character.

21st Granite
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Just as I predicted, Migrants came to us, thankfully I already have three more beds ready to sleep in if there is a need for it...

23rd Granite

Unfortunately I did not know so many of our Dwarven brothers and sisters wanted to come to our fort
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
....We now need to hurry up with the rest of those rooms before those Dwarves become angry at not sleeping in a proper dwarven room.

24th Granite

I have assigned more Masonry dwarves in preparations for my renovations of the above ground defenses, I have high hopes in the designs of our Mechanics, I also told the Haulers we need stone above ground, they said it would take weeks to get enough up there, I told THEM they had better hurry...

26th Granite

The beds and rooms are well underway, As are the new mechanical parts we will need, I am also planning a Above ground barracks, for what if our military dwarfs get sunsick...

5th Slate

After working long and hard, the roof to the initial defenses is almost done, Although It will take months for the other parts to be done, it is a good start.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

OOC:Whew, that was a hectic, trying to get all of that done within that frame of time, I'm actually glad for those Migrants now, they help a lot when hauling, and making walls of course. If anyone has any requests, I will try to do them.

OOC: my Firefox crashed and I lost a month of progress, ill try to recreate it....

Slate

The month goes by fast, but despite that I try to keep a record, not that it helps, when I was out getting water for brewing the journal I was carrying with my notes and records of my doing for the past month got soaked, along with me, but the month was only to create the proper farms, to feed all thirty of us in this time, we have been gather fish to feed us, and only a small farm to get plants for brewing booze, so I took it upon myself to order three newer, and larger farms to be made...Even if it means more work for my lover Lolghurt, whom I have no idea how I got involved with, it pains my Loins to think of her....*The rest is wet, from Flying dwarf's weeping*

5th Felsite

I have overcome my burdens, and managed to draw a picture of our outer defenses at the moment
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
It is not looking good, but I will be adding more soon.
7th Felsite

I have moved the refuse pile to outside the fort, The linking of the bridges are done as well, and I have started on roofing the new barracks, and turning the old one into a dorm for the new Dwarves.

10th Felsite

I have made a makeshift military, to fill up the barrack, though it is only consisting of the former leader and some others, it will still make us safe enough to work without fear.

13th felsite

The quarters are almost done, but I fear they wont be smoothed out in time to be dwarfy enough, we have enough beds for all now, but I want more just in case.

18th Felsite

I have ordered that Copper mail and Shields be made, for it is better than nothing.

19th Felsite

ELVES!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

They come from the south thinking they can come here with their Hippy crap and talk how we are lowly for having cut down trees....I will "Trade" with them....

23th Felsite

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Having told the Militia to take all they wanted from the elves, we have plenty of wood and cloth now, since they are hippies, they will not try to stop us, and if they come back, I'm sure they will get a..."warm" welcome...Muahahaha....We also got a....Giant lion?!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
How did they get THIS here on Mules...no matter, it will be put on display.....

28th Felsite

Having noticed we are not getting any work done on the smithing, I check in on Hermano to see the problem, He says he has been hauling for the past two weeks, I told him to stop it now, and get to work on the armor, He was depressed about me yelling at him, and now he is sulking in the smithing area, drinking his Booze...I feel sorry for him...

4th Hematite

Today I have noticed the wood is still in the trade depot, and have asked some of the workers WHY it is, they said they had no place to put it, so I told them to put in with the REST of the wood....I swear sometimes these dwarves make me feel like killing them all...but then I have a swig of rum.

OOC: Okay, that's it for tonight, Ill post more tomorrow

Very good work, I apologize for how sloppy my designs are. I usually try for more but I was worried I'd end up leaving something unfinished. And there was that brook in the way... and stone is always a problem for me.

I did forget to mention but I had altered the Titan appearance, if I recall one might show up once we hit 50+ dwarves instead of the usual 80+. I cannot recall if I did that on this file, or my own copy however. I apologize for not mentioning this earlier, it slipped my mind x_x
