That's more than a third of what it took to make Planepacked, you do realise that?

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

I have some nice things to say and one big WTF.

the nice things:

some clever soul had the foresight to dig out rooms for future migrants AND build furniture for them(though I had to make the doors)

the WTF:

we had *TWO* iron statues of ELVES doing elf things
they have been melted

I've also begun a secret project in addition to working on the roof(I also redorfed myself as mayor(we have one of those now!)

!!UPDATE!!

a herd of skelephants appeared very close to our walls
the pointy gems laughed at them

Okay, so I *may* have had some elf statues made, and I *may* have put them in my secret underground elf love nest tomb.

But, umm..i found magma?

!!Elves!! would actually be kinda cool as a civ symbol.  !!Clowns!!, however, you get the impression they're on fire of their own free, malicious, evil, will.

Also, much scarier if literally clowns.

No but really, it's alright.
I'll get back to the fort in a couple hours (after playing halo: reach) and probably play through till about winter(does water freeze here?)

no, it dose not.  waterfall would be pointless if it froze every winter.

so, I did some messing around in an alternate naturelabor and I discovered something.

do not mess with the FB made of salt
the caverns MUST remain sealed completely

It is capable of wiping out our entire fortress in MINUTES
its breath is a boiling gas that paralyzes and rapidly suffocates
plus, IT CAN FLY

extensive use of stairs has let me determine that the next layer of blue stuff is safe

BREAKING NEWS

a useless miller has been possessed
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
this one will not be allowed to touch the adamantine(which is being forged into some swords, spears, and an axe and later, some armor)

here's what he made
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
worth 91K, no interesting decorations, just some spikes of various materials

PS. our swordsdwarves, speardwarves, and axedwarf now have adamantine weapons(about half masterwork, half the level below that)

here is the progress on the roof
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

well,well,well
our good friends the goblins have decided to give us some more goblinite in the form of three ambushes
a few pets have died so far, nothing important
a bunch of thieves also graced us with their presence no doubt wanting that awe-inspiring olivine drum
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
yes, ALL the cage traps are full
this was followed by a FOURTH ambush and the dwarven caravan

we fended them off with zero casualties(dwarven) although one merchant has been shot in the lung and kidney

wow, I thought it would be a peaceful end to the year

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

of course, no year would be complete without a gobbo ambush(well, ANOTHER gobbo ambush)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
we had one casualty from that, a woodcutter
why a wood cutter? because there are basically no god damn trees in the tree farm

the final death of the year belongs to one of our legendary engravers
he decided to build a piece of wall along the bridge with nothing supporting it
the cave in injured several others
fucker got what he deserved

notes for the next guy:

-we have a squad of marksdwarves
-they currently have 0 wood/bone bolts
-please make sure more are made
-look at all the hotkeys; they will be invaluable to navigating what, at some times, seems to be a giant clusterfuck of tunnels
-the garbage dump is in the tree farm near the food stockpile
-I began making a death pit/arena. use it as you will
-there are a pair of nice rooms right below the workshops with no owner, please assign them at your leisure (consider them a gift)
-if you touch the tombs of either Evilsquack or Evilsquack II, I will personally ensure the horrible death of your favorite dwarf
-I requested lots of flux, barrels, and other things we either can't produce or can always use more of from the dwarven caravan
-we have ungodly amounts of bone, each skelephant is giving 60+ as well as a skull and some ivory/teeth

suggestions:
-complete the death pit (make weapon traps to kill the skelephants or make it a box with fortifications for our new squad to practice)
-confiscate the items from our newest prisoners, then kill them in the death pit
-in the archery area, there is an empty room; I suggest a second danger room so that once we have good marksdwarves, we can train them to be good at dodging
-finish the roof; it should be easy now

final words:
To whomever built that little elf love nest
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
this is one of my dorf's thoughts

Maybe if you the next person could extend the traps at the front gate, the process would go easier.

The turn list has been re-cycled.
