Update Nine; The War is Over

French Troops Return Home

French soldiers have begun to be reunited with their families today as they return to their peacetime stations. Among those returning are the volunteers that went originally before we were even at war. They saw the heaviest combat of the war as they were fighting with the outnumbered and outgunned Republicans.


Volunteers returned home and resumed their civilian lives.

Economy on the Fritz

Our economy can't take this. The government has to decide whether we're a peace or wartime economy. During the two months we were at war many new military projects were started. Recruitment stepped up. Factories were pushed forwards. And now that we're at peace the government has cut military spending and we're left with lots and lots of projects and not enough money to support them.



On top of that lots of new infantry related breakthroughs were made during the war. As a result the government has actually destroyed a large quantity of weapons that were produced during the Spanish Civil War and begun producing the new weapons to replace them. Can we afford to do this right now?




Spies!

Recently some vigilante justice has been happening in Rouen. A group of civilians has successfully found and killed, what they believe to be, a band of foreign spies. They claim that they were paid to do this by the government is violently refuted. They are in jail currently awaiting trial.

Once again it's time to change policy. You may pick any of the light up pluses. Also look at the first post for an opportunity to join the French Military!

Don't abandon draft army.  It gives a nice little bonus.  Move towards Hawk Lobby instead.

But certainly give Jean-luc Picard leadership of your biggest fleet so he can make it engage the enemy with great skill.

Alright I just got an event called Rogue Politician where we can choose either to take two steps towards authoritarianishness or stay maximum democratic. If we were more authoritarian we'd need less consumer goods and when/if war arrives we'd get less dissent, however democracy makes overall dissent levels lower. First response gets it. Also update later today.

French Socialism; For the Better?

Under the PCF (Parti Communiste Français) France has had many Socialist reforms. The rich are taxed more and the poor less. Public health-care. State factories. Direct intervention in favor of the socialist Republican Spain. Many believe these actions to have strengthened our nation immensely. But there are also those who believe it to be a disaster. Doctor Depaul at the University of Paris argues that if we don not complete the transition to full Communism our economy will collapse, sparking revolution. "Our current state of some but not all economic policies being decided by the government is unstable." he wrote in his paper 'Sur le France.' "If there are no jobs than the Facists will rise up and take control of the proletariat. They will make many promises and after they have overthrown our government they will break them all. And unlike in Spain no one will save us. Our only hope is to either convert to a planned economy, or to declare war on Fascism. If we switch over to Communism we will make many enemies among the Fascists and the Democrats alike and war may be sparked then as well. And so I advise the French Socialists, if they wish  make war not love."


Are the recent reforms turning France into a communist state?

And in this spirit two spies from Fascist nations, Germany and Japan were caught recently. They were publicly executed by guillotine outside the prison Saint-Pierre. Onlookers were said to be inspired by patriotic fervor and many signed up in the army directly afterwords.



Another step towards war for us, Germany has annexed Austria. This will not stand. They cannot and will not so clearly and belligerently violate the Treaty of Versailles. If Briton and her Friends will not face this menace, is it not the duty of France to protect Europe from falling into the bitter clutches of Fascism?




The Long March

Gabonese soldiers have begun a long march to help French soldiers in the case of an African war with Italy. The are marching across the Saharan Desert and their journey is expected to take almost a year.




France's Great Blessing

France should be proud this day. For we have finished one of the most beautiful ships ever created. The great Battle-cruiser L'Entreprise. Captain of the vessel, Jean-Luc, has agreed to send us reports of it's status if war is declared which is a great gift for our paper. This is a proud day for the citizens of France. Let Germany have it's Bismark and it's Tirpitz. We have L'Enterprise.


May it keep our shores safe forever.
