We came across an old abondened building today. Empty of any valuable stuff, but we found something extremely useful in there. It was an obersvatory, powered by divinasional and illusionary magics. It was left surprisingly intact, completly functionable and even with an instruction manual. Using the device, we learned of a few interesting places. Among them a tower filled with flying humanoids. (Note to self: Get Wings.) Also, an tower used by alchemists and an Oasis, quite like the one near Eriden. We noted their locations, but for now decided that the most important course of action would be to keep searching the tower of Rulquas.

In other news, everything is going according to plan. Loaw has agreed to help me learn draconic. Soon, no one will be able to tell that I am not a wizard. This is just excellent. Too bad I had to agree to teach him cooking for it. I can't cook. Why should I? After all, I can just always change my tastebuds if I don't like something. This won't end well. Not at all.

I just called Loaw by his name, didn't I? This isn't good. Making friends with the people I'm lying to this much isn't good. Damn. I need to stop this. If they ever figure me out, I need to be able to run away without hesitating. Adale, you goddamned Idiot. This won't end well. Not at all.

Spoiler: Diary of a Steelwall (click to show/hide)

A few interesting events today. We found some old building, and in it there was some magical items and drawings that seemed to allow the Orc Kin to summon a image of the world that he could control. He used it to find a few interesting locations that we may go to in the future. The magic users debated about trying to cut the magic from the floor and bring it with us, but in the end it was decided to leave it be as that was too likely to destroy a useful thing.

After we left the old building we found some gigantic ruins. Hah... Gigantic... At any rate they had a odd crater in them which interested some of the others, so we went in to explore them, a dwarf kin I had not meet before also came with us, I think he was invited by a one of the smaller Orc kin kobold, it seems like he works for the people who sent this group out in the first place. In the ruins we were attacked by some flying three headed beasts. Although they were sapient they could not be dissuaded from attacking us, even when the dwarf kin offered to magic up food for them. So we killed them. I dunno. Technically we invaded their home, but they were unreasonable and most likely evil. I will not shed a tear for them I think.

The hole turned out to be nothing, although well exploring it I had a interesting conversation with the others on the nature of evil, more specifically the nature of evil giants. They seem to have a hard time grasping the difference between a race that is only view as evil or has evil tendencies and a race that is actually irredeemably evil.

Spoiler: Vaba's journal (click to show/hide)

Today while traveling around the large mountain range we discovered an old dome built with marble.  From the outside the dome seemed ruined, but on the inside the place was pristine aside from an untouched layer of dust.  In the center of the lone room was a magic circle of some sort, on the left was an unkept study, and on the right was a single large bed with a kitchen nearby.  While everyone else rushed to the study I rode to the bed, and promptly fell asleep in it.

It didn't take too long for my sleep to be interrupted.  Loaw's surprised yelp had woke me up.  Mael had cast some spell that turned all the furniture in the room invisible and painted the walls and ceiling with the vision of some sort of flying viewer thingy.  At the very top of the dome was a view of the dome from above.  It was quite similar to walking on the roof in the Githzerai monastery I used to live in.

A moment later the view shifted to a large tower with winged humans flying around it.  I suggested that we move the viewer inside one of the creatures, but Mael didn't oblidge.  Instead, he made the viewer thingy go to two more locations: an oasis in the grasslands, and a tower surrounded by all sorts of alchemical plants.

I caught Adale and Loaw whispering about something, and when I confronted them about it they threatened to roast my horse while I sleep!  I later changed my tactics and secretly listened in on their conversation.  Loaw was negotiating with Adale about being taught to cook.  I now believe Adale may be the ringleader of some sort of conspiracy to eat my horse! And Loaw just went outside and found some healer named Brick by coincidence.  I will have to keep a lookout for any more conspiritors

In more comfy news I have convinced SteelWall to move the bed out of the dome and onto Bote!  It won't fit into the hold, but laying in the sun is actually fairly comfortable now that we are out of the desert!


The next day...
While heading south on our way to the oasis we saw in the dome we came across a curious sight.  There was a giant pathway made out of stone with two rows of pillars across it leading to a large hole.  We parked Bote in front of the structure, and then went exploring.  Suddenly Ethan shouted 'CHIMERAS!' and three horrible monsters leapt from atop the pillars.  Each of them had three heads, a goat, lion and dragon head.  Their bodies were a horrible mashup of the aforementioned three creatures.

While at first the chimeras were quite formidable, their strength petered out over the course of the battle and they were slain.  Near the end of the pathway was a large pile of rubble; SteelWall found an enchanted shield in the pile, and the rest of us split a chest of coins we found.

Then we began exploring the hole in the ground.  We wandered around the thing while discussing giants with SteelWall.  All we found was dirt, and I still don't know what the heck those chimera things were!

Decisions, decisions...

Not much to report. We found the old tower, sort of a scrying place-it was mysteriously empty, of occupants monstrous or otherwise. Too bad-I was expecting a fight of some sort.

It was pretty boring, and it made my head hurt, but it showed us our next destination. I think.

Ah, I met a good friend today! His name is Adale-some sort of wizard, I take it. A pleasant fellow to chat with, and he's got an actual sense of humor. Shocking, on this ship. The Sand-Man Vaba, for example, seems utterly helpless. He's a Human-I would think he would know this things!

Ahh, we reached a deal, me and Adale-I'll teach him a smattering of Draconic, and he'll teach me how to make good food-taters I hope. Loaw loves taters...

Ahem.

We moved on. I admit, landing at the ruin sight-scratch that, not so much ruins as utter lack of something that was there once-was a mistake. We ran into a trio of foul Chimera. It was all I could do to hold the line while my new allies slew them...

Afterwards, I had a sort of heart to heart the the giant Steelwall. Despite his outwardly stoic appearance, inward rages an unending hatred for Giantoid creatures. While I am hardly in a position to judge...it seems beneath him. He is set in his ways though. I'm not sure anything I said got to him.

Anyway, done for now...hopefully Solace can rise out of the funk she's been in lately. I haven't got her out of the hold. Maybe it's that hibernation thing...warm weather? Or something...
