You try it again on some dirt. It jumps out again, and lands. But it just sits there, kinda confused looking.

(Hint 2: Swarm ;))

Try it on 5 at once. Dilute 2 reactants with water to feed them all.

You grab 5 crystal leaves, and throw them in with two diluted reagents.
They jump out, stick together, and land like a spider. it them runs into the crystree and gets knocked over, it still trying to walk even  though its flipped.

You grab 20 crystal leaves, and throw them in with 10 diluted reagents.
They jump out, and roll into the Cryswarm-5. it becomes Cryswarm-25, a very big (compared to before) spider. You wonder how many it would take for it to be the size and shape of a squirrel.

you need # crystals/2 reactives to make or add-on swarm. (ex. 10 cryswarm needs 5 reactives to be made)

you try to control it by metamagic, and instead of walking up the tree, it falls apart and reforms into a crystal puddle. obviously you aren't doing something right. Or maybe you should be simpler in your commands.

You try again, and this time only think 'Spider'. It reforms back into its previous form. Woo!
its stupid, but its smarter than the robots, at least.
