Let's just hope the whole thing just doesn't collapse on top of them.  The underground is a dangerous place.
But they're safe so long as they don't dig more than 7x7!

Just hope they don't break into the caverns.

At least they'll have space and food, but I don't think the locals'd be too happy about sharing with 33 smelly, stinky miners.

Why would they not be happy? There's always some good, bleeding heart Samaritans that just line up to help the less fortunate present in every community. I don't see how this'd be any different.

I was cracking a joke about the underground caverns in DF.

They have residents prior to your arrival.

Let us not forget the skinless giant humanoid capybara who lives at the bottom, they best steer well clear of him.

It sounds like they actually told the guys today, and most of them are very calm about it. It was confirmed they're using a separate shaft as a latrine

I wonder what they do all day down there, play cards?

Hope they get out okay.

Could they fit down a suction tube or something for getting rid of all the human waste?

They are 670 meters underground and a suction tube can at most exert a force of just over 1 bar (well, maybe a bit more since they're deep down). With no possibility of putting extra pumps in between the pressure drop is going to be so big that there is no way to pump up any liquid via conventional means (and pumping gases would be at a snails pace). It would work if they had a pressure chamber or something to dump it in and a feed line to build enough pressure but that won't fit trough an 8 centimeter hole. Such a contraption would also be a bad idea if there is any chance of further collapse because if something goes wrong the high-pressure liquid is going to cause shrapnel with deadly qualities to fly down the access hole.*

* Coming from someone who didn't do the math, this last part might be a bit doubtful though.

I may misremember but they might have had some access to exercise equipment down in the emergency facilities of the mine they had access to, as well as playing cards and such.

Yeah, these poor guys are going to be board as a fence if left down there too long.

Likely enough to start making horrible puns or something.

I'm calling the Comedy police.
"Hello you have called the 911 emergency hotline, what is the status of your emergency."
There has been a bad joke spree, involving wood, use of the word "Pun", stone and semi relation to a thread.
"Affirmative, please stay where you are while Comedy Police teams and a TV Tropes enforcement squad comes to solve the emergency."
Thank god.

Meanwhile, on-topic.
4 months? Dear god. Just saw these guys on the news. They don't look bad right now at least. As everyone else said. (At least I think so.) These guys might need some psychological treatment when they get rescued.

I wonder if they'll get their salaries for these 4 months. They're technically at work, not their fault that the company didn't do it's job right.

Was the company in question using unsafe mining practices that put the miners at more risk of collapse than normal?

Just wondering.
