My Vampire Summoner is a follower of Jiyva since a while (hilarious to try to race all those jellies to catch items before they do lol)

I am in front of Lair, but i don't know if my character is ready for this.
Here is my dump :
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Summon Imp so far has served me extremely well, helping me survive some impossible odds.
The Jellies have indirectly helped, splashing acid on all the pests that were in their way.

Should i take Summon Canine , though i am not sure a canine is any better than the imps i can get, as i don't have yet found any selective memory spell, it could be a complete waste.
Should i take Summon Scorpions or Summon Ice Beasts ?
I have some reserves on these spells, as they are mixed summon/ice and summon/poison, while i am only skilled in summon.
From what i read it seems that it could lead into many scorpions or ice beasts summoned hostile, something i definitively don't want as my character is not really capable to deal with anything.

Or should i get an offensive spell from the earth book i have, and begin to train it a lot ?

In my experience, summon canine is rarely useful. Sometimes you get a jackal, sometimes you get a war dog.

By the way, if you manage to find entrance to slimes, you have got yourself a free rune basically

every dump you make while being online will be saved into this file (each dump will overwrite it) :
http://crawl.akrasiac.org/rawdata/frankhovis/frankhovis.txt

basically it will always be
Code: [Select]
http://crawl.akrasiac.org/rawdata/yourCAOname/yourCAOname.txt

Cheers, I'd been looking for that page for a while.

The main Crawl IRC channel is ##crawl on chat.freenode.net, so I have created #bay12crawl on freenode.net. I will be AFK a lot. I'm playing for the next couple of hours, and will stay logged in for the weekend.

I hope to find that entrance, a rune would be very good for the team score.
But i fear a lot possible murderous yaks, hydras, blink frogs and etc... that may be on the way, i don't think the Imps can take them, they have difficulties with the yellow frogs/whatever they are named in dungeon, and those are not the worst of Lair.

I wonder about Slimify, the wiki state
Quote
Slimify: Turn enemies into slimes. (4 MP, Food, Piety)
Is it that easy or is there some tricks the wiki does not mention ?
You can turn anything into a slime and so them being neutral with Jyiva you have no more problems ?

wow that's an impressive weapon of massive destruction.

For the spells Summon Ice Beasts summons a tough creature that lasts for a long time and summon canine at a good level will summon wolves and war dogs which are amazing. Summon Canines will clear the orc mines but Summon Ice Beasts is probably for the best though because they are tougher and last longer. The advantage over Summon Imps is that a regular imp will teleport at the worst time and let you die to what ever it was blocking from attacking you.

Also: cold-blooded monsters are slowed by cold attacks. The Lair is full of snakes and frogs. Ice beasts will clean up for ya.

I agree that ice beasts are the best. Imps blink around too much. Canines are so-so. Scorpions don't last very long, and hostile scorpions are a problem for you.

Another favorite of mine: Earth elementals. Get earth magic up to skill level 5 and most of your elementals will be friendly. Summoning an earth elemental also digs a hole in the wall, so if you are being chased by monsters, you can start to burrow a tunnel, and soon there will be a hallway filled with several buff elementals between you and your foes.

If you can get 'Demonic Horde', you will start to really mop up.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Now being in front of the stairs to Lair:6, the Imps have again serving me very well even killing a few yaks, but we have not met any Hydra or Blink Frog maybe that's why hopefully Slime Pits will not be far from there as the wiki mention it can be between 6 an 8

How much i hope it is not in Lair:8 , the horror it can potentially be there.

Those slimes eating everything are really hilarious (and annoying ;) ), there was an unknown book on the ground in the Dungeon, my vampire was moving to take it hoping to learn wondefull summons, and coming from a corridor next to it a slime came and ate the book before i could even touch it, i was nearly laughing imagining in what kind of state of mind my character would be in front of this :D

edit : i tried Slimify.
What the wiki does not say is that it is in fact a power to enchant your weapon, it does not transform automatically something into a slime.

But either the enchantment is extremely limited in time, or is limited to 1 hit, as i was able to slimify a yellow frog by hitting it with my dagger that recieved the power, but no further monsters i hit.
And the slime that appeared was the low level one you often meet in Dungeon:1 and was neutral to you.

If it can work on very strong monster it is interesting, but if it can only work on average monsters, it is much debatable considering it costed me apparently enough faith to launch it to force me to lose 1 faith rank with Jyiva.
Me that was hoping to become a royal jelly soon as i was near the max rank, i have to feed those slimes a lot more now.

Can't you pray to make the jellies temporarily stop eating things?

Player ghosts: Run away, most of the time. Come back and clean them up when you are more powerful. I usually go back after 3-4 levels and I'm able to kill them.

Slimify works on quicksilver dragons and elven blade masters, but it doesn't work on demons.

Sometime i hate this game.
Went down stair with a few war dogs just in case, in the bottom there was a komodo dragon.
In the bottom left of the screen there was water and 2 electric eels.

In such situation i just move back upstairs and find another downstair, after all it would have only took the komodo dragon with me and i'm sure the few war dogs and my dagger would have made short work of it, as we did it already earlier.

That if the game had at least let me played a turn, as it looks like it just skipped my turn several time :

my war dogs and the komodo dragons hit each other while the 2 eels are bombarding us with electricity.
blablabla ... More ...
I press SPACE (because i know that a neutral command that will not make me lose my turn) , the eels shoot again and dragon+dogs battle again
blablabla ... More ...
I press SPACE , the eels shoot again and dragon+dogs battle again
blablabla ... More ...
huh ? where is my turn so i can go upstair !
I press SPACE , the eels shoot again and dragon+dogs battle again
.... You die.
Great, just great is that the new "random energy thing" or does going downstair paralyse the player automatically for a few turn ?
Because my character was not affected by paralysis or slowed down.

That's not the 1st time i observe this (occured a few time offline too), but it is extremely annoying when that happens.

Since my post in the other Crawl thread has gone unnoticed, here it is in this one, where I might get an answer.

Just decided to start playing the new version. For some reason every message line is preceded by an underscore. It's not game-breaking, but god damn is it annoying.

Can I fix this?

Also, is there a way to find out what damage your natural weapons do short of looking up the abilities in the wiki?

Gogo Ghoul Monk.

If you want to see how embarrassingly bad my latest playthroughs have been, look here.

I'm getting better, though. Just to figure out how to tackle other players' ghosts...

They are tough. A good strategy is to run away because they can't go up or down stairs.
