Just read Felicia Day's essay on Gamergate. I havent had the time to pay attention to this thing. I thought it was just an isolated scandal that turned into fuel for a bit of sexism debate. But now its turned into a whole "movement" against women in gaming? Wtf is this? I guess I should actually do some reading on this horrendously fucked up shit.

The movement ended up merging with some of the worst elements of the right-wing, including literal neonazis at times, who are often also its unofficial leaders (in that they're charismatic centers where Gaters congretate). Its nonstop harassment of women (and their defenders) in tech has led to an increase in mainstream media spotlight including The Guardian, NPR, Thinkprogress, and MSNBC. It is also now on the Southern Poverty Law Center's Hate Watch.

It's pretty awful, overall.

Here's a Guardian piece though there are also a lot more articles on it which expose its transparent lie about the movement itself being concerned with ethics in journalism, such as by pointing out exactly what most gaters mean when they say "corruption."

Wow, how'd you do that?

If I told my parents I wanted a person from the internet to stay with us...they'd be less than pleased.

That's easy, just start acting gay (rainbow scarf, lisp, watching 'Glee'), then, when they find out you want to be with a woman, they'll be all "Oh Thank God!"

(this may not be as true as it was 15-20 years ago)

You know how much I've heard about Gamergate recently? Hardly anything. It's been great.

That lasted a long time.

edit:
A 'debate' featuring two steadfast groups operating under both broken counter-factual dogma led by short sighted demagogues result in a horrible farce that would make Socrates spin in his grave so much and so fast that he could power all of Greece.

And that's all I have to say about that

literally the most /r/iamverysmart thing I've seen in the lower boards

My mom's boyfriend is acting like an absolute ass again. He was alright for a while, but now he's become an incredibly verbal bastard again.

I don't understand these mood swings of his. Screaming for no reason, insulting everyone around him, and then forgetting about it all a few minutes later, like nothing ever happened. And it seems like nothing even triggers it; he just starts up.

He is, but we aren't quite able to just leave. We've wanted to leave for years, but haven't been able to for various reasons.

Put more pressure on it? Set things in motion? Living with an unstable person is like living with a lit powder keg, it's not a question of If it'll explode, it's a question of When.

Setting things in motion would be difficult since we lack the resources to leave.

Not many good apartment openings either. Most are too expensive or don't allow animals.

Plus no funds to leave anyways. They recently bought a house together. Almost a year ago now, actually.

Aaaaaargh. Damn unreliable people backing out of gigs at the last minute. Anyone else I'd want to go with is revising for the exams we have the day after -_-
Oh man, that sucks. I'll come! Or well, I would if I wasn't already going to a gig today.
You are still going to whatever it is, right?

Gather the resources? Better late then never.
