That's not surprising. "Oh, that stuff is easy, I don't need to study it."

It was pretty much their first assignment ever - they're freshmen. I guess it was more like "Surely it can't be that easy - let's write a whole paragraph to cover every possible aspect!"

There's a 42 years old redditor named Objectkitty.

But why

I don't want Bay12ers who go on Reddit to think that I'm a person in their forties.

I... don't think they would? You're not objectkitty. Also no guarantee that aliases have the same people behind 'em, regardless. I know there's a handful of other Frumples out there in the wild internet. I know because they're all on the list, and one day, there will be only one.
S'not an assumption most people make unless the name is really distinctive, basically, and things based around fairly common words (Like, y'know, Objective)... isn't. Particularly. So you're good, obj. You could probably even get away with having a reddit account of the same name and claiming you're not the same person.

I loved the section of my online submission rule sheet that also stated: "Temporary outages of the system are NOT an excuse for not submitting classwork."

I guess they mean that you should submit it before such setbacks could stop you altogether? That's the kind of reasoning I usually hear, anyway.

Are you trying to tell me that there aren't people who intentionally wait until the last minute of the deadline just for kicks?

Moreover, are you telling me that there aren't people who rigorously schedule their homework in due-date priority? When you've got a coursework treadmill spread across 5 or 6 classes, it's not exactly a sign of laziness to give assignments low priority, only raising it as the due date approaches, just so that you can focus on the stuff that's due right the hell now.

Besides, "Oh, the deadline we announced was a lie, you had less time" is horse shit. Yeah, I know the "real world" isn't nice and orderly like that, but we're expected to do all sorts of shit we aren't in employment specifically because it's an educational environment. By the same token that you get to expect us to show our work on arithmetic we can do in our heads, refuse to collaborate with other students, and pay thousands of dollars for this opportunity to work, students get to expect things like "fairness" and "clarity" that may be lacking in the professional world.

*grumblemumble* I feel somewhat strongly on the issue of entitled faculty. Everybody's always talking about entitled students like they're the only source of childishness in the system. >_____________>

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.
